Golden Ameda Brooks was born in San Francisco, California on December 1, 1970. Barbara Brooks and Walter Brooks are her parents. Brooks is a classically trained dancer who has also studied belly dancing, modern dance, and jazz.
She was also a figure skating competitor and won numerous trophies during her childhood. Following high school, she attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she majored in minority media representation. She later earned her master’s degree at Sarah Lawrence College.
