He earned four varsity letters as a safety and outfielder before graduating from the University of Washington in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He started his coaching career at the University of Washington, where he was the coordinator of the program. In 2000, Malloe served as a graduate assistant coach for the Rose Bowl team. Malloe served as program coordinator until 2000 before joining Western Illinois as special teams coordinator. Malloe coached the defensive line for three years at Washington before being moved to co-defensive coordinator and then co-defensive coordinator/outside linebacker in 2021. Malloe joined the UCLA Bruins in 2022 as the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.

He was also named a four-time all-league defensive back and returner.

Jordan, Ikaika’s second child, stayed away from the football field. Taylor Malloe, the coach’s eldest daughter, is engaged to Benjamin Gaoteote, and the couple revealed last month that they were expecting a baby boy in March. Ikaika and Tara also have a daughter, Sloane, who turned four on March 30 last year.
