Mike grew up in Colorado and attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he majored in journalism. Mike’s professional path changed after his first job as a photographer at KJCT-TV in Colorado. He originally planned to become a journalist. Although he loved editing and filming stories, he was given the unusual opportunity to learn about weather forecasting. With minimal knowledge of weather forecasting, he returned to school and enrolled in Mississippi State University’s Department of Meteorology.
He worked as a morning meteorologist at WBIR starting in 2005. He held that position until 2014 when he accepted a position at WeatherNation TV in Denver. Mike’s new position allowed him to work nationally while remaining close to his family. However, he felt the urge to return to East Tennessee in 2017, a place he adored and where fans knew him well.

Mike Witcher is the happy father of two children from his marriage to Janelle. The meteorologist, on the other hand, did not reveal much about his family.
