Biography of John Rich
John Rich was born on January 7, 1974 in Amarillo, Texas, where he spent his childhood. His mother’s name is Judy Overton Rich, and his father’s name is Jim, who used to be a Baptist preacher. After graduating from high school, he moved to Nashville, where he began his music career. He worked here at Opryland USA, a seasonal amusement park in Nashville.
Growing up, John never envisioned himself in music because all he wanted to be was a professional team roper. While in Nashville, he met and joined the country music group “Texasee”, which was later renamed Lonestar. His professional music career took off when he was hired as the band’s lead bass guitarist. Professionally, John began singing after moving to Nashville, but rose to prominence when he joined the band Lonestar in 1992. He wrote two singles with the band, “Say When” and “Come Cryin’ to Me,” the latter of which became one of the band’s best singles. In 1998, John left the band to pursue a solo career and signed to BNA Records. He released two singles for BNA Records and an album in 2006. In 2001, he released the album Rescue Me, which he dedicated to Katie Darnell, a cancer patient who greatly inspired him.
They formed the duo Big & Rich with Big Kenny and recorded three albums for Warner Bros Records.
