Jon Najarian was a linebacker for the Chicago Bears before starting his financial career in 1981 at the Chicago Board Options Exchange. He also has a brother named Peter Najarian, who is a trader and was once a football player. In Minnesota, Jon attended Gustavus Adolphus College.

Jon Najarian founded Mercury Trading in 1989, after starting his financial career in 1981 at the Chicago Board Options Exchange. Because his football career was so short, little is known about it. He ran his company, Mercury Trading, for over 15 years before selling it to Citadel in 2004.
He also founded 1010WallStreet.com, a financial news site for serious traders, in 1991, and later that year, Jon was Chief Market Strategist at PTI Securities. In 1991, he and his brother co-founded a securities and futures company.
Najarian has also worked as a business anchor for Fox Television Chicago and First Business. This show aired in 160 markets across the country. He also co-founded optionMONSTER.com with his brother Pete, where he publishes the proprietary HeatSeeker, proprietary research and DepthCharge. A draft research paper dated March 10, 2002 also concluded Jon as a trading activity to follow. This paper was written by Allen M. Poteshman, who worked in the College’s Finance Department.
Jon didn’t stop there; he also founded tradeMONSTER and optionMONSTER, two online brokerages. All of this was completed in October 2005. He recently teamed up with professional trader Guy Adami and his brother Pete to launch Drakon Capital.
