Josh Wilder was one of 18 people competing for a $1 million cash prize and the title of “Single Survivor.” The 34-year-old podiatrist from Atlanta, Georgia wanted to join the show to challenge her daring side. Speaking to Parade, he discussed his performance in the upcoming season and opened up about having a genetic defect as a child. He also said that his organs weren’t working properly due to his gastrointestinal condition, and shared:
“Kristen Reagle, a cadaver transplant donor, donated a kidney to me when I was 9 years old. She was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 15; it was as if she existed. It never started.”
The Season 44 Survivor contestant said that his donor is an active, outdoorsy person so he did it not just for her but for his family. Josh started watching the show when it first aired in May 2000 and will watch it with his family every Thursday. He mentioned that he watched almost every season of the CBS show, except for a few that he had to skip because of medical school and college. It involves a winner, Jeremy, and a non-winner, Davie, because Davie is an excellent social worker and does tasks well.
The cast of the upcoming season of the survival show said in an interview that they want to be seen as active on the show, as well as someone who cares about their teammates. To get to the finish line, Josh wanted to be more sociable and accepting of his competitors, but when he got there, “everything was gone.” Then he said:
“I will stab in the back, cheat and do what I have to do to get it. But most of all, I will play a very social, dynamic and devoted game. And then, God willing, when we meet, I’ll do what I need to do. All bets are off.
The Season 44 Survivor contestant said he won’t let his emotions overwhelm him and he won’t allow others to toy with his emotions. Josh says he’s seen this before on the show, with players emotionally playing and pitting them against each other, and he plans to avoid that happening to him.
Furthermore, the candidate believes that he must keep an eye on the prize and not let others worry him, as Jonathan did with Maryanne. The premiere of Survivor Season 44 will air on CBS on Wednesday, March 1 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
