Karen Hunter was born in East Orange, New Jersey on April 24, 1966. However, she has never revealed any information about her parents or siblings. He graduated from Marylawn of the Oranges High School in 1983. She later attended Drew University and received a BA in English literature.

Karen Hunter began her career as a sportswriter for the newspaper in 1998. She then began writing business stories as well as other features. Karen was hired as a journalism instructor at New York University in 1996. She held this position until 1998. She has also served on the New York Daily News Editorial Board.
She went on to become a concurrent member of various news teams for the New York Daily News in 1999. In 2002, she was appointed as an assistant visiting professor of administration at Hunter College. She was a student in the Film and Media Studies department. She is currently a distinguished lecturer at Hunter College.
Karen has also spent over three years as a morning radio talk show host in New York City. She worked for the New York radio station WWRL before leaving in 2006.
