Biography of Kevin Harvick
Kevin Harvick was born on December 8, 1975 in Bakersfield, California to parents JoNell and Mike Harvick. He has an older brother, Clayton, and a younger sister, Amber.
In 1980, Harvick’s father gave him a go-kart when he was in kindergarten. He won seven state championships and two major national championships over the next decade.
In 1992, he competed in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series while still in high school. His father built him his first car with money he earned running his garage so he could compete in the lower NASCAR series.
Harvick attended North High School, where he won a CIF Central Section title while competing on the wrestling team. He attended Bakersfield College to study architecture, but dropped out to pursue a full-time racing career.

Kevin Harvick made his Craftsman Truck Series debut in 27th position in his No. 72 family car. Within a few years, he worked his way up and finished ahead of schedule for Spear Motorsports with the No. 75.
In 1997, Harvick advanced to the NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series. Before competing in the Winston West Series championship, Harvick had already won five races.
Due to ESPN2’s coverage of the 1997/1998 NASCAR Winter Heat Series. at Tucson Raceway Park, was significantly exposed. Harvick competed in his first NASCAR Busch Series race in 1999. The following year, he drove for Richard Childress Racing in the No.2 Chevrolet.
Kevin Harvick won his first Winston Cup in 2001, beating Jeff Gordon by 0.006 seconds. In 2002, he became the fifth driver to win at least one race in each of NASCAR’s three national series. He also won his first NASCAR Cup pole at Daytona that year.
