Who Is Kristen Kish From “Selena + Chef”?

The fourth season of Selena + Chef will premiere on HBO Max on August 18. The famous culinary program follows actress and singer Selena Gomez as she continues to find her footing in the kitchen with the support of world-famous chefs. Top Chef champion Kristen Kish will show Gomez how to cook sweet corn and baby carrots with smoked yogurt this season. Kish’s passion for cooking began at the age of five when he started watching the Great Chefs in the World cooking program on the Discovery Channel.

Kish is heard saying in the Selena + Chef teaser:

“We adhere to a light, colorful and pleasant summer atmosphere.”

Other celebrity chefs appearing on Season 4 of Selena + Chef include Adrienne Cheatham, Devonn Francis, Gordon Ramsay, Ludo Lefebvre, Matty Matheson, Nick DiGiovanni, Paola Velez, Priya Krishna and Rachael Ray. Here, we learn more about Kristen Kish, ahead of the show’s season debut.

On Selena + Chef Kristen Kish often prepares dishes influenced by French cuisine.

Kristen Kish was born in Seoul, South Korea, and was adopted by a family from Michigan at the age of four months. People often believe that because of her Korean ancestry, she only prepares Korean food. Her culinary approach, however, is largely inspired by French cuisine. Kish’s knowledge of Asian cuisine, especially Korean, is minimal. She believes that other cooks are better at such delicacies than her. However, she made kimchi, japchae and bulgogi when she appeared on Lucky Chow with YouTube Korean chef Maangchi. Kish later revealed in an interview that she never tried those dishes again.

The American chef of Korean descent is one of the co-hosts of the Netflix series Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend. She previously competed on Iron Chef Showdown: Battle Beantown, when she defeated Matt Jennings but lost to Jose Garces. Kish also won Top Chef Season 10, becoming only the second female chef to do so. She subsequently compared her experiences on Top Chef and Iron Chef, claiming that the latter required more preparation and rehearsals in their own kitchen with their own crew, while Top Chef forced the contestants to think on their feet.

Kristen Kish Cooking, her debut cookbook, was published in 2017. The following year, she collaborated with Sydell to create her first restaurant, Arlo Grey. Kish is also one of three chefs involved in TruTV’s Fast Foodies, a food competition that began in 2021.
