Kurt Sutter was born on May 5, 1960 in New Jersey. He graduated from Roselle Catholic High School in 1982 after attending the school for four years. His parents both worked, and he grew up with two older sisters. Kurt attended Livingston College, part of Rutgers University. He graduated with a major in mass communication and graduated from university in 1986.
He later moved to New York to learn an important acting technique known as the Meisner Technique. He also worked in theater in New York and taught at the Poole Conservatory. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in directing and acting in 2000.

Kurt Sutter moved to California in 2000 to make his dream come true. His big career breakthrough came in 2002 when he was hired as a scriptwriter for the FX TV show The Shield. He also plays Margos Dezerian, an Armenian assassin.
In fact, he debuted as this character in the series. He co-wrote many episodes of the show’s first season, including Two Days of Blood and Dragonchersers. Sutter became the series’ story editor in 2003, with the second season of The Shield, and wrote episodes such as Dead Soldiers and Scar Tissue.
In 2004, he joined the series as a junior co-producer of the third season. In 2005, he was hired as a production supervisor for the fourth season of The Shield. Kurt became an executive producer and then executive producer for the series’ fifth and sixth seasons in 2006 and 2007. He wrote and directed several episodes for the previous season in 2008.
So, years after moving to California, he built his career as a director. Kurt Sutter created and produced another FX TV series called Sons of Anarchy in 2008. He is the series’ lead writer. Kurt plays Otto Delaney in the film. He created another FX series called The Bastard Executioner, but it lasted only one season before it was cancelled. Southpaw, a movie based on his script, was released in 2015.
