Mark Farner, full name is Mark Fredrick Farner, was born on September 29, 1948 in Flint, Michigan, United States. Delton Farner and Betty Farner are his parents. During World War II, his father was a tank driver in the 7th Armored Division. He soon developed an interest in music and took guitar lessons during school.

Mark is the band’s lead guitarist and vocalist, and the songwriter for most of the songs. “I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home)”, one of the band’s most popular songs, was released in 1970 and became a resounding success. He also wrote 1975’s “Bad Time”, which was the last of the band’s four singles to reach the Billboard Hot 100 Top 5. However, the group disbanded in 1976.

In 1977, he released his first self-titled album as a solo artist. “No Frills” (1978) and “Just Another Injustice” (1979) were his second albums (1988). He was the lead singer of the hit song “Is’t it Amazing,” which earned him a Dove Award nomination and peaked at number two on the Contemporary Christian Music chart. He and Steve Lisk founded Lismark Communications. He also has his own publishing house, LisMark Records.
