Merle Haggard was born on April 6, 1937 in Oildale. Haggard suffered severe trauma with the death of his father in 1945, which left an impact on him until the end of his youth. He was often transferred to juvenile correctional facilities to try to fix him after he became extremely rebellious, but that only made things worse.
