Mia Hamm is a former soccer player from the United States. She won the Women’s World Cup twice and won two gold medals at the Olympics. She was on the US women’s national soccer team for 17 years, and until June 2013, she held the record for most goals scored on the international stage. Hamm probably also won the Female Athlete of the Year award from Soccer USA for five years. She was also the face of the US’s first women’s professional soccer league.

Mia Hamm was only 19 years old when she played in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in China in 1991. She was the youngest player on the team. In the first game, she scored the goal that won the game and helped her team win. They beat Germany in the semi-final and then beat Norway in the final to win the World Cup for the first time.
In 1995, she scored a goal at her second World Cup, but the game against China ended in a tie. The US team beat Denmark in the second game. In the quarter-finals, they beat Japan, but they lost to Norway in the semi-finals. The US team beat Denmark, Sweden, and Norway at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
In the last minute of the game against China, Hamm got hurt and had to be taken off the field. The US team did win its first Olympic gold medal, though. In 1999, when she scored her 108th goal for the US team, she broke the record for most international goals scored, held by Elisabetta Vignotto of Italy. Hamm’s record stood until June 2013, when American player Abby Wambach broke it.
