Who Is Nicolas Cage’s Wife? All About Riko Shibata

Nicolas Cage and Riko Shibata are strong.

The couple tied the knot on Feb. 16, 2021, in a “very small and intimate wedding at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas,” the actor’s rep told PEOPLE at the time.

Cage’s fifth marriage. “I know five is a lot, but I think I did well this time,” he said Los Angeles Times.

Shibata and Cage welcomed their first child together, daughter August Francesca, on September 7, 2022. This is the actor’s third child; he is already a father to sons Kal-El (18) and Weston (33) from previous relationships. Shibata, 28, is a first-time mother.

She met Cage through mutual friends

Cage said Flaunt magazine in October 2021 that he met Shibata through mutual friends while he was in Shiga, Japan filming his movie 2021. Prisoners of the land of spirits.

The pair were later photographed holding hands for the first time in February 2020 when they both visited Cage’s nine-foot tomb in New Orleans that he bought for himself in 2010.

She got engaged to Cage over FaceTime

Cage revealed his engagement to Shibata on his brother Marc Coppola’s radio show in August 2020.

“She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and didn’t see her for six months,” Cage told his brother. (Cage was born Nicolas Kim Coppola.)

“We were very happy together and we were very excited to spend that time together so eventually I just said, ‘Look, I want to marry you,’ and we got engaged on FaceTime,” he said.

He has a unique engagement ring

The actor added that he gave Shibati a ring with a black diamond and sent it to Japan after the proposal.

“Her favorite color is black so she wanted black gold and a black diamond,” he said at the time. “I found it, I customized it and personalized it, and I sent it to her via FedEx.”

She spent time with one of Cage’s ex-wives at their wedding

The couple’s ceremony was an intimate gathering, but Cage’s ex-wife Alice Kim, with whom he shares 16-year-old son Kal-El Coppola, was also in attendance. Cage and Kim have remained good friends since their 2016 divorce.

At the time of his wedding to Shibata, Cage told PEOPLE, “It’s true and we’re very happy.”

Shibata’s name on the marriage certificate posted at the Clark County Clerk’s Office was listed as Riko Cage.

The couple then posed for their first magazine cover for to flaunt magazine last year.

She and Cage made their red carpet debut in 2021

The couple waited until after the wedding to walk the red carpet. Cage and Shibata made their red carpet debut in July 2021 at the premiere of Cage’s film Pig.

They also walked the carpet together at the 2021 GQ Men of the Year party in West Hollywood.

She had two pet squirrels

Cage and Shibata bonded early on over their love of pets.

“And she loves animals, so I asked her, ‘Do you have a pet?’ And she said, ‘Yes, I have flying squirrels.’ She had two sugar gliders … I thought, ‘This is it. This, this could work,'” Cage said. ET.

She visited many of Cage’s most significant places

After moving to the United States from Japan, Shibata proactively visited places in the country that held meaning for Cage.

They were spotted in New Orleans visiting the actor’s pyramid tomb. Cage also took Shibata to see his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located a block away from the TCL Chinese Theater.

Shibata now lives with Cage in the United States, but is originally from Kyoto, Japan, he reports to flaunt in their cover story about the couple.

Cage lives in Vegas, where he said he plans to open a movie studio before Elon Musk thwarts those ambitions.

She has one child with Cage

After announcing their pregnancy in January 2022, the couple welcomed their first child together on September 7, 2022. The baby, named August Francesca Coppola Cage, is Cage’s third child and Shibata’s first.

PEOPLE exclusively confirmed that Cage and Shibata are trying in early 2022, with their rep saying at the time, “The parents-to-be are thrilled!”

In April 2022, the actor revealed that Shibata was pregnant with a girl.

In March 2023, Shibata accompanied Cage to the New York premiere of the film Renfield. The actor, who plays Dracula in the film, turned heads in zebra-print trousers and a shimmering black blazer, while Shibata looked chic in a black dress with beading details.

In January 2024, on Cage’s 60th birthday, the couple attended the Golden Globes in Los Angeles. Shibata looked elegant in a black dress and faux fur jacket, while Cage impressed in a black and gold suit.

“I just look at this whole experience as one big birthday party,” Cage, who was nominated for best performance by a lead actor in a musical or comedy, said on the red carpet. “It’s my surreal birthday party. I’m excited to see everything; everyone is invited to my birthday.”
