Who Is Patrick Stewart's Wife? All About Sunny Ozell

Patrick Stewart and Sunny Ozell have been together for over a decade.

The Star Trek the actor and the musician met in 2008 at a restaurant in New York, where Ozell was working as a waitress at the time. After dating for several years, the couple married on September 7, 2013. Ozell is Stewart’s third wife; the actor was previously married to Sheila Falconer from 1966 to 1990, with whom he shares two children, and to Wendy Neuss from 2000 to 2003.

Over the years, Stewart has been known to sing his wife’s praises, often complimenting Ozell’s talent and accomplishments.

“I’ve never met anyone like her before,” Stewart told PEOPLE in 2022. “She’s so smart and so informed. And her intellectual accomplishments are extraordinary. She remembers everything.”

She is a singer and songwriter

Ozell is a successful singer and songwriter. She released two studio albums — the debut album, Take it with mewas released in 2015, while her second album is titled Lowest prices during the nightit came out in 2020.

She met Stewart in 2008 while working as a waitress

Ozell met Stewart in 2008 while she was working as a waitress at the now-closed Franny’s restaurant in New York. At the time, Stewart was performing in a production Macbeth at the nearby Brooklyn Academy of Music.

“[When we first met] she was working as a waitress at a restaurant in Brooklyn,” he recalled to PEOPLE in 2022. “This lovely woman came up and said, ‘Sir, your honor, what would you like for desserts?’ We talked and she told me how much she wanted to see Macbeth, but it was sold out. The Brooklyn run, which was only three or four weeks, sold out before we opened.”

Stewart went on to explain that he gave Ozell his phone number — the only time he’s ever given his number to someone — so he could get her tickets to the show.

“[I] said ‘Call me, I can get a ticket.’ And we did that. After that she came backstage, we had dinner and here we are,” he said.

She and Stewart married in 2013

The couple married on September 7, 2013, in Ozell’s native Nevada. Stewart’s longtime friend and fellow actor Ian McKellen officiated the ceremony, however, the couple faced wedding disaster after learning that McKellen’s ordination credentials were not accepted in Nevada. In the interview for 2020 Jimmy Kimmel Live!Stewart admitted that after the ceremony in Nevada, they had a last-minute wedding at a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles, which McKellen also officiated.

He likes to explore medieval churches

Besides making music, one of Ozell’s hobbies is researching medieval churches. In 2020, she launched a YouTube series called The Church Sessions, where she gave viewers an inside look at some of the UK’s fascinating churches.

“I am not attracted by the religious aspect [the churches but the human aspect that these buildings in the U.K. are these wonderful receptacles of centuries of life in that country,” she told The Travel Addict in an interview about her hobby.

She and Stewart are dog lovers

Ozell and Stewart are both avid dog lovers. The X-Men actor worked closely with the ASPCA and L.A.’s Wags and Walks after adopting a pit bull named Ginger in 2017. Both Stewart and Ozell documented their pet adoption journey on social media.

“[Ginger] he brought such a quality of patience, tolerance and fun into our lives that, in a very short time, he changed my sense of where our world could go,” he told PEOPLE at the time. “I literally find myself more optimistic than I was, and there’s only Ginger for that.”

To celebrate National Dog Day in August 2022 and show her continued support for animal adoption, Ozell posted a sweet snap of herself and her husband snuggling up with one of Wags and Walks’ rescue dogs.

She informed Stewart of his Golden Globe nomination

When Stewart was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2016 for his performance in Blunt Talk, Ozell happened to be the first to notice the news — and reacted by letting out a scream (which was actually a scream of joy).

“I’m on vacation in Jamaica and this morning I got up early reading Guard newspaper on my iPad, and I was thinking that it wouldn’t be published for another two hours, when all of a sudden I heard a scream from the bedroom where my wife, I thought, was sleeping,” Stewart told PEOPLE at the time. “And I hurried because she was terrified spiders so I thought the tarantula had climbed into bed with her or something – no, she was already online looking at the posts and nominations.”

He added: “First of all, I made sure she wasn’t being eaten by something – and she got wonderful news that I didn’t expect, if it came at all, for another two hours, so that was a very nice start to my day.”

He says he will “never get used” to life in the spotlight

Despite Stewart’s plethora of acting awards and her own accomplishments as a musician, Ozell said she’ll “never get used” to living in the spotlight — and never wants to.

“When something really glitzy comes up, like the Emmys or the BAFTAs, I’m still amazed that a girl from Reno, Nevada is on the arm of a gentleman like Patrick Stewart,” Ozell told Female First during a 2015 interview. “And honestly, I hope it always stays that way.”

She had an episodic role Star Trek: Picard

In addition to sharing a life together, the couple also shared the screen. Ozell appeared in an episode of the second season of the series Star Trek: Picard. In the episode, which aired on April 14, 2022, Ozell made a brief appearance on stage with her real-life band during one of the show’s most dramatic scenes. She can be seen performing the song “Take You Down”, which is on her 2020 album. Lowest prices during the night.

She and Stewart have walked many red carpets

Over the years, Ozell and Stewart have attended dozens of major events and posed on numerous red carpets.

In March 2024, the couple joined the ranks of celebrities at vanity fairOscar after party in Los Angeles. Stewart looked handsome in a black tuxedo, while Ozell wowed in a vintage Zandra Rhodes dress.
