Who Is Riley Keough’s Husband? All About Ben Smith-Petersen

Riley Keough has been married to Australian stuntman Ben Smith-Petersen since 2015.

The actress — who is the daughter of the late Lisa Marie Presley and musician Danny Keough — met Smith-Petersen during filming Mad Max: Fury Road In 2012, the two met briefly on set, but didn’t start dating until a year later while doing reshoots in Australia.

Keough’s romance with the Australian stuntman took off quickly, and the two announced their engagement in 2014. Less than a year later, the couple tied the knot in February 2015.

“My husband is such a good person,” Keough wrote in a 2022 essay Vogue Australia. “He is calm and loyal, strong and sensitive. He is my best friend.”

In January 2023, Smith-Petersen spoke on behalf of his wife at Presley’s memorial service. As he read Keough’s words, he discovered the couple had a baby girl.

“I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters,” Smith-Petersen said.

He is a stuntman and an actor

Smith-Petersen has performed as a stuntman in numerous films, including Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Suicide Squad.

He is also an actor. In 2014, he starred alongside Keough in the film Spark and Light. Smith-Petersen is also set to star in an upcoming indie horror film A dead thingaccording to Deadline.

He met Keough on the set Mad Max: Fury Road

Both Keough and Smith-Petersen starred in the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road, that’s how they met. Keough portrayed Capable, one of Immortan Joe’s five wives, while Smith-Petersen played Doof Warrior, Immortan Joe’s blind musician.

However, Keough and Smith-Petersen only started dating after the film was reshot in Australia.

He has an episodic role Daisy Jones and six

Keough revealed that Smith-Petersen has a cameo in her Amazon Prime Video series, Daisy Jones and sixduring the series premiere on February 23, 2023 in Los Angeles.

“I don’t want to spoil it, but the producers thought it would be funny if he was in that scene,” she said. Party tonight. “They were like, ‘Do you want Ben to do it?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, that’s funny.’ ”

In March 2023, while appearing on Late Night with Seth MeyersKeough said Smith-Petersen’s cameo included a sex scene.

“The cameo came about because I had to have a relationship with a random person on the show, and the producers said, ‘It would be so funny if it was your husband,'” she said. “I think they thought it would be less embarrassing, and then we got there and they said, ‘This is really embarrassing.’ ”

The actress continued: “First of all, I’ve never faked sex with my husband. Second, we were just giggling the whole time. It was so weird.”

He and Keough fell in love in Australia

In the essay for 2022 Vogue Australia, Keough described the early days of her and Smith-Petersen’s romance. They became close again in 2013 while doing reshoots in Australia and Keough “realized I thought Ben was cute”.

She later invited the stuntman to her friend’s house in Sydney, writing: “We had a few drinks and I remember we had a relationship. He started salsa dancing with me and teaching me, because he grew up dancing. It was such a fun night. A few of us went to one of the bays for a swim and it was really magical.”

Keough continued, “We ended up kissing that night and the next day we went to Camp Cove and got in the water and I hugged him and it was like I didn’t want to be away from him. I felt so comfortable.”

In 2016, Keough told USA Today that she had an early crush and told the tabloid, “Two weeks into dating him, we were at a gas station and I thought, ‘I could see myself having kids with this person.’ It was kind of like I knew I was going to meet my husband. It was really cool.”

He married Keough in 2015

The couple announced their engagement in August 2014. Smith-Petersen shared a photo of Keough with a diamond ring on Facebook and simply wrote, “It happened.”

Keough and Smith-Petersen held their first wedding in Nepal, as the couple was building a school there for several weeks before their stateside wedding. “The families knew we were getting married and they said, ‘Let us have a Hindu wedding,'” Keough recalled in his Vogue Australia essay. “It was so beautiful and, in a way, that wedding was a little more intimate and really special. That wedding, I cried. At my bigger wedding, I was a little nervous, I wasn’t as present. But it was still just as amazing.”

The couple married in Napa Valley, California on February 4, 2015.

In February 2023, Keough appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and said she knew early on that she would marry Smith-Petersen.

“I don’t see the future, but I know certain things will happen,” he said Daisy Jones & The Six said the star. “Like when I met my husband, he got out of a gas station on our second date and I thought, ‘I’m going to marry him and have kids with him.’ ”

She added: “I just knew. We hadn’t even said ‘I love you’ yet.”

He and Keough have the same tattoos

In your 2022 essay Vogue AustraliaKeough revealed that the duo “got the same tattoos on the third day of our relationship, just for fun.”

Smith-Petersen has another tattoo in honor of his wife: In September 2021, the stuntman shared a photo on Instagram, revealing the name “Riley” inscribed on his lower abdomen.

He has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

In April 2021, Keough announced on Instagram that her husband had earned a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She wrote of the achievement: “Ben got his black belt in BJJ today. He always wanted to get his black belt before he turned 30 and he did!!! So proud of you @isitmeurlooking4 ❤️🎉❤️😭 .”

He and Keough welcomed a daughter in 2022

During a memorial service for Lisa Marie Presley at Graceland in Memphis, Smith-Petersen revealed that he and Keough are the parents of a daughter.

“I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters. Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor, my manners, my temperament, my wildness, my tenacity. I’m a product of your heart, my sisters are a product of your heart, my brother is a product of your heart,” Smith-Petersen said of his mother-in-law, reading his wife’s words.

After the speech, Keough’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE that the actress and Smith-Petersen welcomed their daughter in 2022.

In an interview with vanity fairpublished in August 2023, Keough revealed her baby’s name: Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen.

Tupela’s first name comes from the Mississippi town where Elvis was born, while her middle name is a nod to Keough’s late brother, Benjamin Storm Keough.

The actress also spoke about her decision to welcome her daughter through a surrogate. She felt that surrogacy was “the best choice for what I had physically with the autoimmune stuff,” referring to Lyme disease.

He and Keough have walked many red carpets together

Smith-Petersen is known to have joined Keough on the red carpet.

In February 2023, he accompanied his wife to the premiere of her Amazon Prime series Daisy Jones & The Six. A month later, Smith-Petersen and Keough attended vanity fair Oscar after party.

The pair were also photographed on the red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. Keough was one of the evening’s special guests, earning a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series for her role in Daisy Jones & The Six.
