Who Is Rita Moreno’s Daughter? All About Fernanda Luisa Gordon

Rita Moreno has won Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys for her various roles over the years, but her most important roles are as a mother and grandmother.

The story from the west side the star shares a daughter, Fernanda Luisa Gordon, with her late husband, Leonard Gordon. Moreno and Leonard, a former doctor who later managed Moreno’s career, married in 1965 and welcomed Fernanda a year later. Leonard died in June 2010 at the age of 90.

Despite their 45-year marriage, Moreno does not look back fondly on their union. In March 2024, she told PEOPLE that she had repeatedly considered leaving Leonardo, who she called “very controlling.”

“Things started to get very tense. And if it wasn’t for my daughter, I probably would have left,” Moreno said.

Still, Moreno says that Fernanda, nicknamed Nandy, “was the most wanted child in the whole world” and that she received a lot of love from both her and Leonardo.

“Being an only child means we poured all our love into it,” said the EGOT winner magnificent magazine in 2008 “That love is a bottomless well”.

She was born in 1966

Moreno and Leonard, who married in 1965, welcomed their first and only child together on September 26, 1966. According to the University of California, Berkeley, Fernanda spent her childhood in New York before her family moved to Los Angeles. She later earned a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.

In 2021, Singing in the rain said the star Playroom that she is grateful for her daughter. “On September 26, my daughter Fernanda was born,” Moreno told the newspaper. “She brought with her a light that over the years has grown into an eternal glow that warms me more and more as the years go by. You could say that she is the gift that keeps on giving.”

She got married in 1996

On October 12, 1996, Fernanda married her husband David Fisher at the Stonepine Estate Resort in Carmel Valley, California, according to The New York Times. At the time, the couple lived in Berkeley, California, where Fernanda worked as a performer and freelance graphic designer. Fisher worked at a local consulting firm.

He has two sons

Fernanda is a mother herself. Her first child, Justin Fisher, was born in July 1998. Moreno’s second grandchild, Cameron Fisher, arrived two years later, in July 2000.

In his interview with magnificent magazine, the Oscar winner recalled the day of Justin’s birth. “Our grandchildren are the light of our lives,” she said. “One of the best experiences of our lives, if not the best, besides the birth of our daughter, was helping with the birth of our daughter’s baby. We were with them in the hospital [Fernanda and David]. I held one of her legs. It was stunning. It was the most moving experience you can imagine. My baby is having a baby.”

Justin joined Moreno at TIME’s 2023 Women of the Year gala. PEOPLE asked Moreno at the event when she feels most beautiful, to which the proud grandmother pointed out her grandson and replied, “When I look into my grandson’s eyes, and that’s one of them .”

She was a substitute for her mom

Fernanda was a substitute for her mother on the set of Steven Spielberg’s film story from the west side. In 2021, she shared a picture with her mom on set on Instagram.

“Feeling so #grateful to have been the replacement for @theritamoreno in #WestSideStoryMovie 😍🙏,” she wrote. “Being lucky enough to go through that experience with my mother and crew and a cast of insanely talented people was the #gift of life. And hearing our friends, family and critics (!) praise the film is the #icing on the cake.”

She attended her mom’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony

Fernanda was present when the EGOT winner received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1995 and posed for photos next to the prestigious star with her parents.

She continued to work 80 for Brady

Fernanda worked as her mother’s assistant on the 2023 film 80 for Brady, which also starred Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Sally Field. “Don’t miss @80forbrady – it’s a great ride with #talent overflowing everywhere😂,” Fernanda wrote on Instagram. “And after working to shoot the whole movie, I’m so pleased to see a great outcome. And – it’s pretty damn cool to see my name on the credit list😍.”

She is a jewelry designer

Fernanda is a jewelry designer and owner of Nandiz Designs. In 2021, she and Moreno were on the Oscars red carpet, where the designer wore one of her creations.

She is close to her mother

Fernanda described her mother as “an incredibly unique person with incredible energy that not many people have.”

Over the years, she has written several tributes to her mother on Instagram. In 2022, she shared a memory of the two, writing: “You’ve always been a great mom – and you’ve become a true friend🌸 I’m grateful to share so many beautiful experiences with you mí compañera💞.”

In another post, Fernanda shared a screenshot of her mother Playroom interview 2021 “It was very moving to read this❣️❣️❣️,” she wrote. “I’m so #blessed to have a close relationship with my #mom. That’s a rare #gift at any age, especially our age🙏.”

She threw a surprise party for mom

Fernanda celebrated her mother’s 91st birthday in 2022 with a surprise party. She told PEOPLE that Moreno was “absolutely surprised” by the reunion. “She thought she was coming up just to see the new light fixture,” the designer said. “She didn’t know the place would be full of friends.”

Fernanda added that Moreno wanted to celebrate in her new house. “She just didn’t see how to make it happen, so she was thrilled that I was able to do it,” she said.

Moreno shared pictures from the celebration on Instagram. “From the bottom of my heart at age 91!!!!! Overjoyed by the outpouring of love and gratitude and elated to spend the day with some of my nearest and dearest,” she captioned the post. “Muchas gracias mi familia y amigos! Besos!”
