Steve Erceg, an Australian MMA fighter, rose to prominence after winning his UFC debut against David Dvorak in mid-2023. Considered an underdog, Erceg stunned fans around the world by overcoming tall odds to defeat the No. 10 flyweight fighter. With that, the 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m) tall MMA fighter raised the anticipation for his upcoming fights.
A native of Perth, Australia, he competed in his home country’s mixed martial arts program, Eternal MMA, winning the 2020 flyweight championship. He defended the championship three times before the call from the UFC. Steve Erceg, a submission and grappling specialist, was 9-1 until the UFC contacted him about an 8-day fight against David Dvorak, which was awarded to UA. It was a warm-up match for the main event, Amanda Nunes vs.. Irene Aldana, but his passion and fighting skills will become another topic of discussion.

In an interview with Eternal MMA 2021, Steve Erceg talked about his MMA experience and how his mother initially objected.
During his teenage years, he became obsessed with MMA after seeing a UFC event (specifically Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Miro) and informed his father of his goal. So his father took him to an MMA facility and eventually launched him into fighting. Erceg’s mother opposed his martial career, but his father pursued her. She would reportedly attend all of his fights, even if she was still worried about her child.
He said, “She [Steve’s mother] she’s worried about her little kid being beaten and all that stuff. So she was just trying to protect me in a different way.” The UFC flyweight fighter claims that his family is very close and that he often visits his parents once a week.
Steve Erceg’s MMA Stats: Win/Loss and Earnings Record
Erceg started his MMA career at the age of 21, but his first professional fight took place in 2016 against Ryan Robertson in the Australia regional. He won with his preferred guillotine choke. On September 1, 2017, his second match against Sean Gauci ended in his first loss. It was his only loss in 11 contests, and then he won ten consecutive fights. Steve is 11-1, including one knockout and six submission wins. According to reports, his MMA career earnings total $50,000. In June 2023, he was invited to Dana White’s octagon for UFC 289.
Despite having only eight days notice to face a tough opponent, David Dvořák, he was undaunted and won via UA. On November 11, 2023, the Australian fighter faced Alessandro Costa in his second UFC bout at UFC 295. Again, he won with UA.
