Hasnat Ahmad Khan, FRCS, British-Pakistani heart and lung surgeon. Khan was born on April 1, 1958 to a Mohmand Pashtun family in the Pakistani city of Jhelum, located in the Punjab region. He gained fame for his love affair with Diana, Princess of Wales, from 1995 to 1997.
He is the oldest of four children. Rashid Khan, his father, owned and operated a glass factory and graduated from the London School of Economics. Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, is a distant relative of Hasnat Khan.
He was employed in Sydney, Australia until 1991 when he moved to London. From 1995 to 1996 he worked at the London Royal Brompton Hospital before joining the London Chest Hospital.
He left his position in November 2007 to take up the post of director of the Malaysian Heart Hospital. Khan has been a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at Basildon University Hospital since August 2013. Hasnat Khan was in a two-year relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales.

Diana visited the Khan family in Lahore in May 1996. Diana considered Khan her soul mate in testimony given at the 2008 inquest, and also claimed that she had ended their relationship in July 1997.
In May 2006, Khan married Hadija Sher Ali, a 28-year-old Afghan royal descendant, in Pakistan. Khan and Ali filed for divorce at the Islamabad Regional Arbitration Council in July 2008.
