Tim Armstrong is a singer, songwriter, actor and producer from the United States known for his deep and unusually gruff voice. He is currently the lead vocalist and guitarist of the punk rock band Rancid, as well as the hip-hop punk rock band Transplants. In 1997, Tim co-founded the record company Hellcat Records. As a songwriter, he collaborated with artists such as Pink and Jimmy Cliff, for which he received a Grammy Award.

Biography of Tim Armstrong
Timothy Armstrong was born on November 25, 1965 in California, United States. His father, Don Armstrong, died in 2012 at the age of 81, while the identity of his mother remains unknown to the general public. The team met Matt Freeman in Albany, California when he was five years old while playing Little League Baseball, and then formed a band.
Tim received his elementary education at Albany High School. He then enrolled at Albany High School, where he graduated from high school. He did not continue his education after high school because he decided to pursue a career in music.

Tim and his old mate Matt Freeman formed the band Basic Radio in 1985. Despite not releasing a single album or EP, they made demos and eventually disbanded. In 1987, he co-founded another band, Operation Ivy, which disbanded in 1989 after the release of their debut album.
In 1989, Armstrong and Freeman formed a new band, the Dance Hall Crashers. The band consisted of Joel Schaaf, Erik Larsen, Andrew Champion and Grant Mclntire. In 1989, they debuted at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley. Tim and Freeman soon parted ways for various personal reasons. Both joined the band Downfall, although they lasted barely three months.

His friend Freeman suggested that they form a new band in the hope that it would help him get rid of his alcohol addiction.
