Who Is Witney Carson’s Husband? All About Carson McAllister

The couple started dating when they were in high school, and after surviving the adversities of a long-distance relationship after graduation, they married in 2016 when they were both 22 years old.

In a video she posted on YouTube in 2018, Carson and McAllister talked about their relationship and what they love about each other. “What I really love about Carson is his positivity and how funny he is. He always makes every situation positive and fun,” Carson said. As for McAllister, he said his wife “takes care of so many people around her, including me. … She really puts me first, even above herself. And that is very special to me about her.”

The two also agreed on the importance of family. “It is also difficult with my career. It’s so important, it’s so stressful and we try to make it a priority, but at the end of the day, family is the most important thing,” Carson said in the video. “And so I think over these two years we’ve really tried to highlight that and it’s really important that we always put each other first and the needs of others before our own.”

Now the couple has expanded their family to include their two children, Kevin Leo and Jet Carson McAllister.

They met in high school

Carson and McAllister met when they were both high school students in American Fork, Utah.

“She has been my dream girl since the 7th grade. But she didn’t know I existed until her senior year,” McAllister told PEOPLE when they tied the knot in 2016. “We became really close friends and kind of started dating. From the moment I met her, I could tell she was the most loving and understanding girl I had ever met.”

When Carson announced their engagement in 2015, she said she and McAllister had been together for four years at that point.

“My love of four years @carson.mcallister proposed last night and I feel like the luckiest, luckiest woman in the world,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “It was perfect, he’s perfect #engaged.”

They had a long distance relationship

After they graduated from high school, Carson and McAllister’s relationship went long distance. He lived in Romania for two years as part of a mission with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, while Carson participated in Season 9 So you think you can dance in 2012, where she won second place. Since then she has become a body dancer DWTS before being promoted to pro in 2014.

“On our first date when he came home, I took him to the grocery store,” she said. “It was the most awkward first date ever, because it felt like we still knew each other, but things had changed so much. After a few more dates, it started to get a little more comfortable and that’s when I invited him to Cancún with my family. That was the journey where we really knew we were meant for each other and that we wanted to marry each other.”

They were married in Salt Lake City

McAllister and Carson were married on New Year’s Day 2016. They tied the knot in the Salt Lake City, Utah area and hosted a reception at NOAH’s Event Center in Lindon.

Carson’s DWTS co-stars Emma Slater, Lindsay Arnold, Brittany Cherry and Jenna Johnson were bridesmaids at the wedding. DWTS Pro Kym Johnson also attended, as did a Carson celebrity DWTS partner Alfonso Ribeiro, with whom she won season 19.

“We’ve been in this limbo where he’s in Utah and I’m in LA and we haven’t been able to create a life together,” Carson told PEOPLE at the time. “Now we can start anew together. I’m excited. He is my best friend.” McAllister added: “She’s my best friend. I can’t wait to spend eternity with her.”

They went through difficult times together

In December 2017, Carson opened up about her father-in-law Kevin McAllister’s battle with pancreatic cancer. She announced that she would not participate in that wintering DWTS after learning that he only had a few weeks left to live.

Then in March 2018, Carson announced on Instagram that Kevin had died. “It’s hard not to think why does my husband have to live without his dad? Why do my children never meet their Poppy? and then I remember the Plan of Salvation, to know that we will see him again… and that gives me peace,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself, McAllister and his father. “I know that Kevin is preparing our children to meet us – probably now spin on the floor, over and over until they cry with laughter!”

They have two children

Carson and McAllister welcomed their first child together on January 3, 2021. They named him Kevin Leo McAllister, with his name as a tribute to his late grandfather, although his name is Leo.

Announcing the birth on Instagram, Carson wrote: “He was named after his grandfather who sent him to us… My little Leo, I love you more than words can describe. You are the most precious gift. My life will be forever changed by your sweet spirit.”

McAllister also shared the exciting news in his own post. “I feel so proud to name my son after my dad Kevin Leo McAllister,” he wrote. “My life will change forever. I also have to say how proud I am of my sweet wife who went through the ringer. Never loved you more @witneycarson.”

McAllister and Carson’s second son, Jet Carson McAllister, was born on May 13, 2023. Carson wrote on Instagram that Jet “decided to join us two weeks early on May 13th at 9:21 p.m., just in time for Mother’s Day 🤗.” She added: “Our hearts are doubled for our boy Jetty. He is the most perfect addition to our family and has already brought us so much joy!”

McAllister posted photos taken at the hospital and shared a message of gratitude about his wife. “So happy to call @witneycarson mother to my TWO precious boys,” he captioned the pictures. “She calms me down and keeps her cool because she knows I’m losing [sic] that inside. You are my rock girl! I’m proud of you!”

McAllister is a mechanical engineer

While Carson is in the public eye as one of the stars DWTS, McAllister is not in the entertainment industry. Instead, he works as a mechanical engineer, as stated in his Instagram bio.

In May 2022, Carson announced on Instagram that McAllister was graduating from college.

Along with a carousel of photos of her posing with loved ones while wearing a cap and gown, she wrote: “HE GRADUATED!!!! Words cannot describe how proud I am of this guy! It was six long years of rigorous work, sacrifices for me and my career, and here he is as a graduate mechanical engineer!”

He is adventurous

Carson is still active as a professional dancer, and her husband has shown how athletic he is. In fact, his Instagram bio also states that he is an “adventure lover.”

Posts on McAllister’s Instagram account show him boating, wakeboarding and golfing, despite wearing a walking cast. As for the latter decision, he admitted that he doesn’t know whether he should be “ashamed or proud.”
