Who wants to be a millionaire? host Jeremy Clarkson, 63, asked: “Since the 2000 awards, the Oscar for best actress has never been won by a woman whose last name begins with which of these letters?”

The answers were between G, K, M and W.

Glen admitted he was “drawing a blank” even though he thought Keira Knightly and Kate Winslet could be among past winners.

Choosing his Phone a Friend lifeline didn’t help either as his friend “had no idea”.

In the end, and with a £32,000 safe, Glen had to guess and decided on G.

It proved correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the best actress gong since 2000.

The contestants’ luck continued through the episode, the 2021 repeat, with Glen ending the night by taking home £125,000.

While Glen was cool on screen, viewers at home were outraged by the question.

Millionaire fans blasted contestant who lost the eye-watering sum by saying “and an easy question”

Commenting on X/Twitter, one said: “Worst quiz question I’ve ever heard. I’m so glad he guessed the right answer.”

Second agreed text: “What a stupid first question.”

While a third raged, the question was “awful” and “obscure”.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire viewers were recently stunned by the contestant’s famous Phone a Friend – and even Jeremy was left speechless.

And earlier this month the presenter had to shut down critics after an “unbelievable” mistake on the show.

Meanwhile, one contestant was left horrified after using a lifeline to call his wife – only for a ‘mystery man’ to pick up the phone.

Has anyone ever won a million pound prize?

Who wants to be a millionaire? It was co-created by David Briggs, Mike Whitehill and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. It was hosted by Chris Tarrant during its initial run from 1998 to 2014 before being revived in 2018 with Jeremy Clarkson as host. Over the years, only six people have won the show’s £1m jackpot.

  • The first was Judith Keppel, a former garden designer, who on November 20, 2000 became the first contestant to win the top prize. Following her success, Judith became part of the team of quiz experts for the BBC’s Eggheads.
  • Another was David Edwards, a former physics teacher at Cheadle High School and Denstone College in Staffordshire. On April 21, 2001, he became the second contestant to win the grand prize, and in 2008 and 2009, he competed in both series of Are You an Egghead?
  • Robert Brydges, an Oxford-educated banker from Holland Park, London, became the third winner of the show on 29 September 2001.
  • Pat Gibson, became the show’s fourth winner on April 24, 2004, and later became an Egghead like Judith.
  • Civil servant Ingram Wilcox became the show’s fifth winner on 23 September 2006, and was the last during Tarrant’s tenure as host.
  • On 11 September 2020, Donald Fear, a history and politics teacher at Haberdashers’ Adams Grammar School in Telford, became the show’s first (and only) winner of the £1m prize during Clarkson’s tenure as host. He is also the first major prize winner with lifelines to spare, using only ’50:50′ for his winnings.
