Joey Zuckerman has always had a touch of purple on his bike. He always tried to add his favorite color to the bikes they refurbished, whether it was purple wheels and handlebars. He was always confirmed to see a flash of purple as he regularly raced the streets of the District on his bike. He was a permanent part of the city’s cycling community. According to reports shared by police, Joy Zuckerman was shot in the 6100 block of Third Street NW at around 12:08 a.m. on July 15, 2023. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe Joey Zuckerman was murdered while being robbed at gunpoint in the early hours of Saturday morning. The next day, Sunday night at 5:00 pm, about 100 people dressed in purple rode their bikes on a 30-mile commemorative ride. A GoFundMe page was created in memory of Joey Zuckerman. The fundraising goal is $10,000. However, the fundraiser exceeded its goal and raised over $15,900, with the help of 291 people. Sabrina Valenti is reportedly hosting a fundraiser on Cathryn Smith’s behalf. Joey Zuckerman was a wonderful husband to Cathryn Smith and an excellent father to her son. He was 7 years old when he immigrated to the United States. He worked as a bicycle mechanic and eventually began working as a bicycle delivery man.
