Rey’s parents, Dathan and Miramar Skywalker were humble junk dealers who lived on the desolate planet of Jakku. Dathan, a clone of the infamous Sith Lord Darth Sidious, had a connection to the Force that he passed on to his daughter Rey. Their peaceful life is disrupted when Ochi of Bestoon, a Sith assassin hired by Sidious, sets out to find Rey.
Fearing for their family’s safety, Dathan and Miramir decided to leave Rey on Jakku to protect her. They felt that keeping the family together would only put their daughter in danger. Unfortunately, their intentions to return for Rey when circumstances improve are dashed when Ochi brutally kills them and continues his relentless search after discovering they don’t know where Rey is. Rey’s parents died suddenly, but she eventually found out what happened to her family.
In the third movie trilogy, she revealed that she is the granddaughter of Darth Sidious. But Rey refused to be defined by her family. Instead, she accepted her destiny and aspired to join the ranks of the Jedi Knights, like her idols, Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker. Her path became one of growth, resilience and rebellion against the limitations imposed by her ancestors.
Rey Skywalker: Who is she?
Rey Skywalker is the main character of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Having been raised as a scavenger on the desert planet of Jakku, she has a strong connection to the Force. Despite being the granddaughter of the evil Sith Lord Darth Sidious, Rey decides to embrace the Skywalker family legacy and embarks on a mission to become a Jedi Knight. Rey’s parents, Dathan and Miramir, took the hard way by leaving her on the planet after the Battle of Endor to protect her from her grandfather’s influence.
Growing up, Rey honed her scavenging skills, learning to survive in a dangerous environment using her mechanical and flight abilities. She had no idea Rey had such a strong affinity with the Force. Was Rey Skywalker killed in the end?
There is no definitive canon evidence of Rey Skywalker’s death. As a result, her fate after the Skywalker saga remains unknown.
In the final events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey embarks on a journey to resurrect the Jedi Order and bring peace to the galaxy. In a touching moment, Rey visits Lars’ farm on Tatooine, where Luke and Leia are buried. He buries their lightsabers while staring at the two suns, much like Luke in the well-known scene from A New Hope.
As he prepares to leave, the Force ghosts of Luke and Leia appear, indicating their presence and direction. When Rey discovers that she is part of their bloodline, she takes on the Skywalker surname. Although some fans are anticipating Rey’s death, there has yet to be a definitive conclusion in the canon that has been written. Rey’s narrative ends with her embarking on a new journey to uphold the values of the Skywalker family and continue the Jedi lineage.
