Why Demi Lovato Is Being Open About Getting Injectables in Her Early 30s: ‘It’s Not Taboo’ (Exclusive)

Demi Lovato has always kept it real. The singer-songwriter (who uses the pronouns she/they) became a star at the age of 10 with her role in Barney and Friends, and by 30, she had recorded eight albums, performed around the world and was a judge The X factoras she spoke candidly about her mental health and struggles with addiction.

And now Lovato, 31, is opening up about her beauty routine, announcing that she’s the new spokeswoman for Xeomin, an anti-wrinkle injection used to improve the appearance of frown lines.

“I have always believed in making decisions that empower, [keep you] true to yourself and help you look and feel your best,” the star tells PEOPLE in a candid chat about her new partnership. “I’ve been incorporating Xeomin into my routine every three months and it gives me the results I want while still looking like me. There are times when I like to be glamorous and times when I don’t like to wear make-up at all, and that gives me the confidence to do both.”

It’s important for Lovato not to hold back her beauty routine as she strives for complete transparency with her fans and followers.

“I’m always transparent with my fans, and this is something I wanted to share. It normalizes the situation and takes the taboo out of injections,” she says. “It’s all about what makes you feel like your best self. Don’t listen to the skeptics. Do what makes you feel comfortable in your own skin.”

Sticking to a regimented beauty routine is also key for the star as she prepares for her upcoming nuptials to Canadian musician Jordan “Jutes” Lutes.

“I use Renée Rouleau and Xeomin skin care products,” Lovato says, adding that she gets injections every three months for the best results. “I also grew my hair. I don’t know how it will look for the wedding, but I hope it will be longer and still the same color.”

When it comes to their off-duty style, Lovato feels most comfortable in a relaxed look.

“I love a good tracksuit and a very minimal makeup look,” she says. “Just a tinted moisturizer, some blush, concealer and brow gel, and I’m good to go.”
