Why isn’t Tomorrowland on Disney Plus? The reason Tomorrowland isn’t on Disney+ lies in the pre-existing deals the company has with other streaming services for content distribution.
Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland, also known as Project T in some regions and A World Beyond in others, is a 2015 American science fiction film directed by Brad Bird. Screenplay by Bird and Damon Lindelof, based on a story by Bird, Lindelof and Jeff Jensen. The film stars George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Kathryn Hahn and Keegan-Michael Key.
The story revolves around a disillusioned genius inventor and a teenage science enthusiast who venture into a fascinating alternate dimension called “Tomorrow Earth”. Their actions in this world have a direct impact on their reality.
Walt Disney Pictures originally announced the film in June 2011 with the working title 1952. It was later renamed Tomorrowland, inspired by the futuristic-themed land found in Disney theme parks. The creators drew inspiration from the progressive cultural movements of the space age and Walt Disney’s optimistic vision of the future, particularly his conceptual ideas for the planned community known as EPCOT.
Principal photography began in August 2013, with scenes shot on location in five countries. Tomorrowland was released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on May 22, 2015, in both conventional and IMAX formats.
The film received mixed reviews from critics. Although it was praised for its original premise, performances, action sequences, visual effects and themes, some critics felt that it lacked focus on the titular world and criticized the script.
In terms of box office performance, Tomorrowland underperformed, grossing $209 million against a total production and marketing cost of $280 million. This made it a commercial failure for Disney, leading to a loss of $120-150 million, although these figures do not include income from home media, merchandise and syndication.
Why isn’t Tomorrowland on Disney Plus?
Tomorrowland is not on Disney Plus due to agreements made before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Despite the number of 20th Century studio films constantly being added and removed from Disney Plus due to deals made before Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the streaming service hasn’t seen a significant departure of Disney-branded films.
Because of this, the removal of Tomorrowland from the platform is quite unusual. In the United States, Disney’s feature film “Tomorrowland” was originally added to Disney+, but has now been removed from the streaming platform.
As for the actual Tomorrowland event, the cost to attend varies depending on the type of pass. A day pass ranges from 88 to 110 euros, while a three-day pass for Full Madness costs between 225 and 272 euros. For those looking for a package that includes round-trip airfare and accommodation, the Global Journey pass is available for between €2,000 and €2,370.
In the film, Tomorrowland is portrayed as a real place created by geniuses, and Walt Disney allegedly created the theme park to cover up the existence of this hidden world. A portal between two worlds presents “It’s A Small World”. The film was released on May 22.

Is Tomorrowland a Disney movie?
Tomorrowland is a Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment film, as released on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download on October 13, 2015. Several factors contribute to the removal of certain titles from Disney+. One significant reason is the existence of pre-existing contracts that were entered into before Disney+ was created.
These agreements, particularly with platforms like Starz and Netflix, have provisions that affect the availability of certain content on Disney’s streaming service. Additionally, due to the multi-year deal between 20th Century Fox and HBO, a number of films were also affected and subsequently removed from Disney+ in the United States.
These contractual obligations and licensing agreements play a key role in determining which titles can be included on the platform and which must be removed to comply with legal agreements. As a result, viewers may experience occasional changes in content setup as these contracts move and titles are changed based on contractual terms.
