Jennifer Lopez takes control.
Hours after the singer, 55, filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on Tuesday, Aug. 20, a source told PEOPLE exclusively that Lopez “stopped waiting.”
“She was really trying to make things work and she’s heartbroken,” the source added. “Children are the top priority, as they always have been.”
Multiple sources previously confirmed that Lopez, who is mother to 16-year-old twins Emma and Max, filed the petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court and listed their separation date as April 26, 2024.

Lopez and Affleck recently reunited for his 52nd birthday, which an insider told PEOPLE he spent at a small “celebration at home” with his kids.
“It’s exactly what he wanted. He didn’t want to go out to celebrate. The kids had presents for him, and it was sweet. Jennifer [Lopez] stopped by to congratulate him,” an insider told PEOPLE, adding that Garner also stopped by his Los Angeles rental earlier in the day.
