Martha Stewart is ready for the spooky season!

Tuesday marked the first day of October, and the living home and hospitality legend, 83, gave an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her Halloween costume this year, while reflecting on past favorites.

In a clip posted to YouTube, Stewart also talked about a previous occasion that required serious dedication to her costume.

“Every Halloween is fun,” she said while sitting in the hair and makeup chair on set.

“I remember lugging a surfboard in a wetsuit down Park Avenue, and I looked like I was surfing by the time I got to the Waldorf Hotel for Bette Midler’s big Hulaween because no taxi would take me with a surfboard,” he said. is Stewart.

As she explained, a photo of her costume from October 30, 1998 appeared on the screen.

In the shot, the businesswoman smiled as she posed in a black long-sleeved Body Glove wetsuit with teal embellishments. Her hair appeared to be wet as she held her accessory – a real boogie board.

“So I had to pull [it] from 26th Street to 50th Street. But it was fun. It was a fun party,” she added about the unforgettable night.

This year, Stewart went as the Queen of Halloween. Her costume was inspired “mainly by coronation images [Queen] Elizabeth I.”

“Halloween is a time to, in a way, mask up, show off, have fun and transform,” Stewart said at the beginning of the video.

“I love transformation and I think it’s a lot of fun to become someone else, something else.”

As her glam team prepped her for the magazine cover shoot, she shared skincare prep tips while going through many of her standout costumes – including the time she went as a moth, calling herself “Moth-Stewart”.

“Halloween is upon us once again and I am thrilled to share this very special book with you. It is our ode to fun and festivities, as well as all the joys of early autumn. Now is the time I look forward to every year, especially when the heat of summer gives way to those cooler and brighter fall days,” she said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

I’ve dressed up as so many different characters over the years – but never as royalty. The end result was fun and easy to make, and worn royally and elegantly. I think I’m ready for Halloween. Now my only question is, what will you be?”
