  • To set a goal, determine what you want in life by asking yourself what you value most. Then set a goal that is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely.

    Make your goals as specific as possible. That way you’ll know exactly what you’re looking for. The more details your goal has, the easier it will be to achieve it because you will know the end goal.[7]

    • When setting your goal, consider these questions to help you visualize the outcome:
      • Who, if anyone, can help me achieve my goal?
      • What do I want to achieve?
      • When can I work towards my goal?
      • Where can I achieve my goal?
      • What obstacles can I find?
      • Why is it important to achieve my goal?
      • What are the limits of my success?
      • Why do I want to achieve my goal?
    • Let’s say you want to improve your company’s digital space. Your specific goal statement could be something like: “People access our website from their mobile devices. Because the website doesn’t respond to that traffic, we receive negative reviews. I want to launch a mobile app for the website of the company at the end of August, which will require the participation of the software development, design and marketing teams”.
    • Maybe you are writing a book. A concrete goal might look like this: “I want to write a novel by the end of November of this year to fulfill my dream of being a published author. At school, they may encounter scheduling conflicts due to other assignments and clubs. I will let my friends and family know about my company so they can support my cause.”

    • For example, if you’re building a new website for your business, you can track how much traffic the website gets each day of the week, while looking at where users find your website (search engines, social media, etc.). ).
    • Let’s say your goal is to finish writing a book. You can track your progress with the number of words or chapters you’ve written using a bullet journal or spreadsheet.
  3. Determine how you will achieve your goal. Probably one of the most important steps in setting a goal is making it achievable. Don’t aim too high so your goal is too hard to hit, but don’t aim too low so it’s too easy. Think about your limitations and work around them. Then keep setting bigger goals for yourself with each success.

    • Let’s go back to our corporate example. Setting project milestones can help you and your team measure the success of your app. For example, maybe you celebrate when you have 100 downloads or 100 new customers.[9]
    • For our book example, try to write a certain number of words or chapters per day. When you reach that little milestone, try to write more words or chapters.
