Although Chrisley knows best that became a fan-favorite reality series, Todd Chrisley had reservations about putting his family in the spotlight.
During the performance at The Adversity Advantage Podcasthis daughter Savannah Chrisley revealed that when the reality star approached him with the idea of doing a series depicting his family’s life, he turned it down.
Savannah said of his reluctance, “My oldest half-brother from my dad’s first marriage, he struggles with, you know, mental health, drugs, you know, all of that. And my dad said, I’m not going to put it on TV for everybody to see.”

The Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley The host explained the implications of growing up in the “South” and expectations to be “perfect” and keep things behind closed doors. After repeatedly rejecting the idea, Todd finally agreed and the family sent a “sizzle” to 10 networks.
Savannah claimed that nine out of 10 networks wanted to take the show “straight to series”, one of them being Oprah Winfrey.
Fans were eventually introduced to the Chrisley family Chrisley knows best on USA Network. Premiering in 2014, the series followed a tight-knit, well-to-do Southern family led by Todd and Julie Chrisley as they navigated the ups and downs of everyday life together.

Its popularity led to a spinoff called Growing up Chrisleyfocusing on Savannah and her older brother Chase, 27.
Both shows were ultimately affected by Todd and Julie’s ongoing legal troubles. After they were convicted of fraud in November 2022, USA Network went quiet Chrisley knows best10th season in the late night slot. Growing up ChrisleyThe fourth season ended in October 2022 after a fourth season of six episodes.
In May 2023, Savannah revealed that she and her famous family members were “filming some fun stuff coming up” amid their parents’ incarceration.

“You’re going to have all those awkward conversations,” she said to her Unlocked podcast. “You’re going to see how we as a family navigate through two parents who are in prison. You’re going to see how my grandparents deal with things, how Chase and I deal with things, him and the wedding process, how I don’t necessarily agree with it. ”
Savannah added: “You’re going to see literally every aspect and there’s no holding back, including Chloe asking me what tampons are, so…”
