Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail for the third time since his arrest in September. Federal Judge Arun Subramanian of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York gave several reasons in the ruling, issued on Wednesday, November 27th.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Subramanian considered the seriousness of the violent crimes Combs is charged with, including sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson and obstruction of justice.
Additional charges against Combs include the use of a firearm, threats and coercion as part of a decades-long criminal enterprise.
The court also found clear and convincing evidence that Combs was a danger to the community, and no condition or combination of conditions would guarantee that the community would be safe if Combs were released.
“The court finds that the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably ensure the safety of the community,” the ruling said.

Evidence of violence — such as videos, text messages from victims and seized firearms with defaced serial numbers — as well as Combs’ alleged violation of prison rules while in custody were also factors cited by the court. (Combs allegedly used other inmates’ phone accounts, arranged unmonitored three-way calls and used unapproved communications tools while behind bars.)
Although Combs’ legal team detailed the conditions he would have to meet if he were to be released, such as not having a cell phone, the court ultimately questioned the credibility of the proposal, given Combs’ recent alleged disorderly conduct.

Combs’ claims of inadequate detention conditions were also unsuccessful as the court noted his access to legal resources and the time available to him to prepare for his trial, which is scheduled to begin in May 2025.
Combs has been behind bars since charges were filed in September. The music mogul was previously denied bail by two different federal judges.
The founder of Bad Boy Records has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation for prostitution. Although he has pleaded not guilty, the judge’s concern about tampering with a witness has kept him behind bars until this point.
According to prosecutors, Combs allegedly made “relentless efforts to contact potential witnesses, including victims of his abuse who could provide powerful testimony against him.”

In the filing, prosecutors accused Combs of using the phone access cards of other inmates at the jail to call his sons, among other people.
The defense, however, argued that the case against Combs was “thin” and argued that the mogul should be released on $50 million.

Combs’ third bail proposal included strict release conditions that would confine him to an Upper East Side apartment where he would be under 24-hour surveillance.
In a follow-up filing, defense attorneys said that if released, Combs would not have access to his cell phone, which would be in the possession of security personnel, and that cameras had been installed at the residence.
The indictment against Combs primarily focuses on “freaks,” which authorities allege were elaborate sexual performances involving male sex workers and women who were coerced or coerced into participating.
