Shane MacGowan is battling a dangerous brain disease
Sharing a picture of Shane on a ventilator from his hospital bed, his loving wife wrote: “Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who messaged me and @ShaneMacGowan and thank you @spiderstacy and Terry Woods for coming to visit him.
“Love and prayers to all who are struggling right now. Hang in there!”
The 65-year-old singer was treated for months for viral encephalitis – a serious condition that causes swelling of the brain.
Shane has been hospitalized several times since his diagnosis and was thought to have been readmitted in June, but Victoria did not reveal the exact reasons.
The Pogues frontman has a star-studded guest list, including bandmates Spider Stacy and Terry Woods, who frequent the music legend.
Victoria previously opened up about “facing terrifying fears of loss” as she shared a sweet snap of the two sharing a heartwarming kiss.
In a heartfelt message to her fans earlier this week, Victoria said: “Love is the most beautiful and powerful thing we can experience as humans, but love can also be painful, especially if you fear losing the person or anything else you love.
“The really, really big challenge that we all face is overcoming what our minds think are the limits of love and what love actually is.
“Much of the time what we call love can be more accurately described as attachment or desire or need or longing or closeness or connection.
“And all of this is completely valuable and human and we must acknowledge, appreciate and embrace every part of our experience.”
Victoria, 57, said that sometimes when you “love very much” you “find yourself faced with terrifying fears of loss” that can feel “so big and devastating that you don’t know how to survive them”.
She continued: “You can’t imagine life without this person you love.
‘CHOOSE TO STAY PRESENT’
“In those moments when you stare into the abyss you have the opportunity to expand your awareness beyond the limitations of your mind.
“You have the opportunity to discover more about who you really are and more about who your soul is and more about your connection with the person you love.”
But despite the fear and horror Victoria spoke of, she said we can “choose to stay present as it unfolds” and be surprised that there are more moments of “beauty and grace and even joy than we could ever imagine.”
She added: “Stay involved in love no matter what is happening in your world and continue to call on all your angels and guides to support you and know that love is always the best choice!”
Tipperary rocker Shane has been confined to a wheelchair since breaking his pelvis in a horrific fall a few years ago.
MacGowan fell and broke his pelvis in 2016 and later fell and broke his knee, then ended up tearing ligaments in his left knee, injuries from which he never fully recovered.
