Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the main stars of the series, have officially announced Bad Boys 4 on Instagram. It will be directed by Fallah and El Arbi, who also worked on Bad Boys 3. Sony also confirmed that the film is currently in early pre-production at the studio. After Will Smith’s infamous Oscar incident with Chris Rock, there were concerns about whether the film would ever be made, but Sony’s Tom Rothman dispelled those doubts by announcing that the project was in production.
Chris Bremner will write the script for the next detective film, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Doug Belgrad, Chad Oman and Will Smith. Martin Lawrence, James Lassiter, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone will executive produce.
How Will Smith and Martin Lawrence share the news in Bad Boys 4?
Will Smith just posted a video on Instagram with the caption:
“CLOSED UP TO THAT TIME!”
The video shows Smith getting into his car and heading to an unknown location while talking and recording on camera. He was even seen dancing to Nelly, P. Diddy and Murphy Lee’s Shake Ya Tailfeather from 2003’s Bad Boys II.
Smith stated:
“I wish I were you, don’t know what I’m about to show you.”
Then he reached his destination and knocked on the glass door. Martin Lawrence entered as the door slid open. Mike and Marcus reunite to announce Bad Boy 4.
Lawrence shouted.
“That moment is coming!”
Smith replied, “For life,” but both eventually realized that this pun might refer to a future movie rather than an already released film.

Smith went on to say:
“We shouldn’t have called him that.”
Lawrence tagged Smith in the video and shared it on his Instagram. Lawrence gave the update on the project in an interview on the cover of Ebony magazine in 2022. He stated that the Oscars event would not hinder the film’s production.
He declared:
“At least we have one more.”
He went on to discuss the cultural impact of the first Bad Boys movie, released in 1995. He said:
“It is very large. It’s important to us to come together and show that we can deliver and get people to the box office — that two stars of color, two comedy stars, can make money at the box office.”
The first installment grossed $141 million worldwide in 1995, while the 2003 sequel Bad Boys II grossed $273 million. Bad Boys for Life, the third installment in the series, grossed $436 million worldwide, surpassing the previous installments combined.
