Will Smith Was ‘Shocked and Stunned’ by Jada Pinkett Smith’s Book: ‘I Was All Over the Place’

Will Smith thinks parts of his wife Jade Pinkett Smith’s new book are “shocking”.

How Jada, 52, appeared in the new episode Intentionally with Jay Shettythe host read her a letter from Will (55) in which he reacts to reading her new book, Worthy.

“I just turned the last page Worthy,” wrote Will, who married Jada in 1997. “It’s amazing to realize that despite spending most of my life with you, I was still shocked and stunned and caught off guard, laughing, then inspired, then heartbroken. I’ve been everywhere.”

He continued: “It’s one thing to hear anecdotes at a family barbecue, but it was really overwhelming to take in your story, powerfully summarized in this way.”

Will, whose memoirs Want released in 2021, added that Jada is “one of a kind, a rare blend of strength and delicate sensitivity.”

“I know it was not easy to plumb the depths like that. I salute you and honor you,” he wrote in the letter, which was read by Shetty. “If I had read this book 30 years ago, I would have hugged you more for sure. Now I will begin. Welcome to the Authors Club. I love you endlessly. Now go get a Merlot and rest.”

Jada responded to Will’s letter on the podcast with a laugh: “He knows I can’t have Merlot! That’s beautiful. That’s why I can’t divorce that joker.”

She also added of her reaction to Will’s letter: “To hear him say he would have hugged me more means I heard him say he would have taken a little more time to listen and understand.”

In an excerpt inside the book shared with PEOPLE, Jada revealed that she and Will “lived separate lives and were [at the 2022 Oscars] as a family, not as husband and wife.” Jada further confirmed that she and Will have been separated since 2016 on an NBC News special with Hoda Kotb.

She told PEOPLE that we’re “still figuring it out,” regarding her marriage to Will.

“A lot has happened. The thing about relationships is that they’re constantly moving. Relationships are, it’s an organism. It’s its own thing. It’s constantly changing and constantly moving.
