dr. William Carmanni Callaway, a resident of Watkinsville, met a tragic end in a car accident on June 27, 2023, at the age of 33. He was born to Lamar and Karen Callaway in Greensboro, Georgia, and later moved with his family to Oconee County during his teenage years. Dr. Callaway is survived by his brother Fielding Callaway (Alden), sisters Elizabeth Sandbach (Bryan) and Grace Callaway, as well as his nephews Beau and Lake Callaway.
dr. Callaway was deeply passionate about sports, which was evident during his time on the football field at Athens Academy, where he achieved the prestigious title of NE GA Athlete of the Year and received all-state honors.
He graduated with honors, Cum Laude, from the University of Georgia, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology. During his time at UGA, he was also an active member of the SAE fraternity. dr. Callaway continued his dental education at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and joined Athens Dental Associates in 2022.
Along with his dedication to his profession, Dr. Callaway enjoyed a variety of recreational activities such as golf, snow skiing, water skiing and traveling. He loved spending quality time with his family and friends. dr. Callaway was loved by all who knew him and was known for his compassion, caring nature, hard work and joyful spirit. His faith in God was an integral part of his life, which he expressed through his love for his work and his patients.
Funeral services for Dr. Callaway will be held on Friday, June 30, at 3 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m.
