Commanders assistant defensive backs coach William Gay does not have a wife but was previously engaged to an Olympian. In 2018, Gay was engaged to two-time Olympic gold medalist Natasha Hastings. The two athletes also have a son, William Rydell Gay Jr., affectionately known as Liam. Their son was born in 2019, however, the couple separated in the meantime, and their engagement did not lead to marriage.
Gay served ten seasons in the NFL as a cornerback with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He retired in 2018 after training camp with the New York Giants. Gay’s coaching career began a year later. He worked as an intern for Mike Tomlin in the 2019 season and eventually accepted a position at Missouri State, where he will coach the defensive backs in 2020. The Cowboys awarded him a coaching scholarship in 2023, and in January he announced that he would join the Texas Longhorns Steve Sarkisiana as an analyst. But now William will return to the NFL.
William’s gay wife: Is Commanders new DB coach married?
William Gay does not have a wife, but he was once engaged to Natasha Hastings. William, a former Steelers linebacker, proposed to the Olympian in 2018, but the couple never married. He previously posted an engagement post on his Instagram account, but later deleted it. Hastings, William’s previous fiancee, is a 400m sprinter. She began her career at an early age, competing in the USATF Junior Olympics.
Who is Natasha Hastings?
Hastings, an alumnus of the University of South Carolina, became known as the “400M Diva.” During her career at the University of South Carolina, Hastings won the 2007 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor 400m Championships. Hastings’ time of 50.15 was the second fastest ever at the collegiate level. That year, she also won the Southeastern Conference title. Hastings made the US Olympic track and field team and competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
She won the Olympic gold medal in the women’s 4x400m team relay. Natasha finished fourth at the 2013 World Championships while representing her nation. In 2015, Hastings won a silver medal in the 4×400 meter relay. In 2016, she won another gold medal in the same category. Hastings, a native of New York, won 13 gold medals during her illustrious career. Natasha announced that she will retire from the field in 2022 and expressed her desire to work as a sports psychologist.
Natasha told The Players Tribune, “I want to be a black woman working as a psychologist in a historically male-dominated field that has too few female therapists of color.” Natasha received her Masters in Clinical Mental Health from The Chicago School in 2023 and currently works as an HPS consultant for Under Armour. In 2018, Natasha founded the Natasha Hastings Foundation. The Olympic gold medalist has set up a charity to motivate and financially support women who have qualified for the National Baccalaureate but otherwise cannot afford to go.
William and Natasha have a son
Natasha and William, former athletes, welcomed their only child, William Rydell Gay Jr., on August 6, 2019. Natasha previously shared her pregnancy experience on the Maeband website. Natasha wrote down her worries about work in her pregnancy notebook. When Natasha was five months pregnant and showing, she had the courage to contact her sponsor, Under Armour. The Olympian expected to be left behind, but to her surprise, everyone cheered for her. In an interview with CNBC, Hastings said, “It was almost like I tortured myself for five months thinking about all the possible outcomes.”
But it seems that after the birth of the child, William and Natasha decided to separate. On his son’s first birthday, William posted a photo on Instagram that talks about their breakup. He posted a picture of him and Natasha with their child Liam, along with the statement: “We may have some differences as adults, but raising Liam will require maximum effort from both sides.” He has a mother and a father who adore him with all their hearts.
Natasha and William posted many pictures of their child on Instagram. Natasha allowed her child to attend her master’s degree ceremony last year. The former NFL star was also seen driving her child to work, with additional photos showing Liam on the football field.
