Biography of William Houston

William Houston was born in Sussex and raised in Northern Ireland. Houston studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama and has played a number of lead roles on the classical stage, including Troilus in Troilus and Cressida, Prince Hal in both parts of Henry IV, and leading roles in Henry V (for which he was nominated for the Evening Standard Theater Award for Best Actor), Sejanus and Coriolanus by Ben Euvega and Peter Euveides in Shakespeare’s Company/Royal Hall. In January 2014, he took on the lead role in Fortune’s Fool at Old Vicu, replacing Iain Glen. From May to July 2014, he played Titus in Lucy Bailey’s production of Titus Andronicus at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

Career

In April 2009, he appeared in “Cause and Effect”, the second episode of the Robin Hood third season. He also played Boucher in the BBC version of Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South, with Daniel Denby-Ashe and Richard Armitage. He played Dr Millias Culpin in the BBC series Casualty in 1909 and 1907.

He played police officer ‘Clarky’ Clarke in Guy Ritchie’s 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, co-starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, and reprized the character in the sequel to Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows from 2011. He teamed up with From Software to voice Marvelous Chester in the 2011 Dark Souls DLC, King Vendrick in Dark Souls 2 and Scholar of the First Sin in the re-release. In 2015 he voiced the NPCs as retired hunter Djura and the Gatekeeper in Bloodborne, and in 2016 he portrayed optional boss Oceiros’ rival, the Lost King in Dark Souls III.

He played Ted Daszkiewicz in BBC’s The Salisbury Poisonings in 2020.
