Woman, 52, killed after car mounts pavement and hits her just months after she scooped Postcode Lottery prize – The Sun

A WOMAN has died after a car skidded onto the pavement and hit her – just months after winning a postcode lottery prize.

Anna-Maria Stevens, 52, and her 23-year-old daughter were on foot when they were hit by a car in Essex on Thursday afternoon.

The couple was rushed to the hospital where Anna-Maria was pronounced dead.

Her daughter’s injuries are “not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing”, according to Essex Police.

Police arrested the driver of the black Suzuki Splash on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

She is currently being held for questioning.

Social media was flooded with tributes, with one reading: “Sadly we will all miss you.

“We are all thinking of your family and friends.”

Another wrote: “So sad RIP Anna-Maria Stevens.”

In a statement released by Essex Police following the incident, a spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a collision between a car and two pedestrians at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John’s Road just before 5.30pm.

“A 52-year-old woman and her 23-year-old daughter were taken to hospital, unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical professionals, the 52-year-old woman died.

“Her daughter’s injuries were described as not life-threatening or life-changing.

“The 31-year-old driver of the car, a black Suzuki Splash, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs. She remains in custody for questioning.

“The woman’s family is being assisted by specialist officers.”

They appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage – quoting incident number 930 – to come forward.

Anna-Maria spoke about her £13,000 postcode lottery win in January this year.

She said she spent most of her winnings on her dog, whose kidneys failed after allegedly ingesting poison.
