A customer reached out to fashion retailer Shein and delivery service FedEx after allegedly finding a “vial of human blood” in her recent mail order.
On Tuesday, Anna Elliot — from Tennessee — posted a now-viral video on TikTok about the bizarre incident, claiming that in addition to the dresses she bought, her package from the fast-fashion company contained “a dented can of Mexican beans and a vial of human blood.”
“I just received a package from Shein containing a vial of human blood from a testing company. He didn’t have a name, he didn’t have a doctor’s office, he didn’t have a date,” she explained in a clip on social media. “The lady from the testing company said they were trying to track him down. She said that it was handled completely wrongly, and that they don’t even send blood to the residents. They just send blood back and forth between doctors.”
In a statement to PEOPLE, the fashion retailer said: “When we learned that a customer had received a package that had been tampered with, we immediately launched an investigation. This indicated that the package contained only the ordered SHEIN items when it completed the quality control process and left our facility. We will continue to actively support the customer in her further investigation into what happened after her package left the SHEIN facility.”
Elliot said she immediately notified the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the agency is filing a report, describing the incident as a “major biohazard.” She also reportedly notified her local health department and local sheriff’s department, prompting local police to come and collect the vial.

In another video, Elliott claimed that Shein was initially unresponsive to her inquiries before later launching his own investigation into the matter. “I just want to say that Shein is actively taking steps to help me,” she explains in another video.
She claimed they reviewed security footage of her order’s packaging before shipping.
She shared an alleged email from a customer service manager that read: “Our investigation shows that when your package went through our quality control process and left our facility, it contained only the items from the order.”

Elliot claims that FedEx “didn’t offer to help me” and that it “hooked me off.”
FedEx did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Now Elliot is warning customers to be careful when opening packages. She also mentioned that the police will probably get rid of the bottle.
“If you receive Shea’s package, throw it on the table and look at everything before you touch it, then sanitize your hands,” Elliot said. “Be extremely careful.”
