World University Rankings 2024
THE World University Rankings 2024: The Times Higher Education (THE) has published the World University Rankings in which as many as 91 Indian institutes have secured a place. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has emerged as India’s leading university, securing a ranking of 201 to 250 worldwide.
IISc Bangalore is followed by Anna University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Mahatma Gandhi University and Shoolini University for Biotechnology and Management Sciences. These universities are ranked between 501 and 600. However, the leading Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) continued to boycott the rankings for the fourth consecutive year.
World University Rankings 2024: List of Top 10 Indian Universities
For the first time ever, a record number of Indian universities have made it to the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. Indian universities have made significant progress this year, including the top five universities in the country. IISc moved from 251-300 range last year to 201-250, Anna University moved from 801-1000 range last year to 501-600.
Aligarh Muslim University moved from 801-1000 range last year to 601-80 and Bharathiar University moved from 801-1000 range last year to 601-800. Also, Malaviya National Institute of Technology entered the rankings for the first time in the 601-800 range. Check the table below:

World University Rankings 2024: University of Oxford secures 1st place overall
According to THE Rankings 2024, the University of Oxford is the best-ranked university in the world, with Stanford University coming in second, making it the best-ranked university in the US, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in third place. Check out the list below:

World ranking list of universities
In November 2004, The Times Higher Education Supplement, in association with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), published the first edition of the World University Rankings, ranking 200 universities. At the time, the methodology relied on just five performance indicators, including staff-to-student ratios, survey-based academic reputation, research paper citations, the presence of international staff on campus and the proportion of international students.
