World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic‘s LFG tool is facing a myriad of issues, including defaulting players to the tank role. Wrath of the Lich King Classic went live in a pre-patch on August 30, in anticipation of its full release on September 26.
Wrath of the Lich King Classic is the second expansion to be added to World of Warcraft Classic servers, following May’s Burning Crusade Classic. WoW Classic allows players to relive the game as it was in its original form in 2006, with certain updates being made to the original and its expansions to improve game balance and quality of life. For instance, Burning Crusade Classic was different from the original, with small changes made to improve the player experience. For WotLK Classic, these changes include the LFG tool. In the original expansion, the LFG tool had a streamlined process to find a group for a raid, which included simply choosing a dungeon, choosing a role, and queuing.
Now, with the release of WotLK Classic, players are finding that the original LFG tool has been replaced by something convoluted, buggy, and problematic. As reported by PC Gamer, players in a recent Reddit thread have discussed how the dungeon finder defaults every class to the tank role, regardless of their abilities. The finder also allows any WoW class to queue as any role it wishes, which players have claimed ruins the makeup of the dungeon group. This means that players have to resort to kicking others in the group if the player queued for the wrong role, whether it be by mistake or maliciously. Players can abuse this system by simply queuing for whichever role has the lowest wait time. The LFG tool’s menu has also been criticized, as it requires multiple clicks to find a dungeon and as well as repeat refreshes to keep the data up-to-date.
The LFG tool in Wrath of the Lich King Classic has been met with much ire. There have been complaints about the dungeon finder during the testing period, and users on Reddit are frustrated that it has not been changed for the better since then. While WoW‘s cross-faction raiding has been praised, the dungeon finder is being considered a step in the opposite direction, with players complaining that Activision Blizzard is simply ignoring them.
There have been positive changes to the LFG tool in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, but the bad definitely outweighs the good, and the current state of it is extremely buggy. Fans are upset, and are looking to Activision Blizzard for answers.
