Ravi Shankar Yalamanchili hails from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. He attended Veeramachaneni Paddayya Siddhartha Public School in Vijayawada. He is a graduate of Sagi Ramakrishnam Raju Engineering College (SRKR College of Engineering), Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh. Later, he moved to Madhapur, a suburb of Hyderabad in Telangana state.

In August 2001, Y. Ravi Shankar became a Director of Fore C Software Ltd, a company engaged in construction, engineering and other technology activities in Tamil Nadu. In December 2005, he became the Director of Telangana Netsource Softek Pvt Ltd. He is the co-founder of Mythri Movie Makers, an Indian film production company, which he founded with partners Naveen Yerneni and Mohan Cherukuri. The production company was established in 2015 to produce and distribute Telugu films.
Y. Ravi Shankar made his acting debut in 2015 with the Telugu action film Srimanthudu. The film follows a multi-millionaire named Harsha who adopts a village in an attempt to fill a void in his life and work to improve the living standards of the local people. The film was critically acclaimed and won Mythri Movie Makers the 2016 Nandi Award for “Best Popular Film”.

The storyline of the film revolves around a hearing-impaired young man named Chittibabu and his elder brother who decide to rebel against the 30-year-old illegitimate rule of the corrupt leader of their village. “Mythri Movie Makers” was nominated for the Filmfare Awards 2019 – Telugu Film Industry Awards for “Best Film” for this film.

In 2021, Mythri Movie Makers produced another popular Indian Telugu action drama film Pushpa: Rise – Part 1. The film centers on Pushpa Raj, one of the many coolies in the Seshachalam forests of South India who illegally smuggles the forest’s rosewood.

After releasing several Telugu blockbusters, Mythri Movie Makers has announced that it will enter Bollywood in 2021 with a film starring Salman Khan. Y. Ravi Shankar also became the appointed partner of Hyderabad-based real estate firm Mythri Associates LLP in July 2021.

On October 17, 2023, Ravi received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in New Delhi for the film “Uppena”.
