The Simpsons’ Yeardley Smith married former police detective Dan Grice on Monday, July 11. On July 13, Smith’s agent confirmed the news. Dan Grice is a former Springfield police detective who met Smith in 2014 when he volunteered to be part of her security while she was in town. Yeardley Smith has been the voice of Lisa Simpson since The Simpsons debuted in 1989. The couple married at their home in Los Angeles. More information about the wedding will be announced later.
How did Yeardley Smith meet her husband?
Dan Grice, as previously stated, was a detective at the Springfield Police Station. Smith and Grice first met in 2014, when the former traveled to Springfield, Oregon for the unveiling of a Simpsons-themed mural to mark the show’s 25th anniversary. Yeardley was initially not interested in the event because she was concerned about her safety after being the victim of stalking in the past.
When Yeardley asked about security, she was told by the Springfield Police Department that she would be escorted by a plainclothes detective during the event. Dan turned out to be that detective. Dan volunteered when his boss was looking for volunteers for the opportunity so other detectives could spend time with their families and children. He had no such obligations since he was unmarried.
Grice was familiar to Smith from seeing her in previous films, but he had no idea that she was the voice of Lisa Simpson. He then followed Smith to an event the next day and they exchanged phone numbers before Smith left for Los Angeles. They spoke by text message, and Grice met Smith during a visit to Los Angeles, while Smith traveled to Oregon to see him. The couple got engaged in 2018, and although they planned to marry in March 2021, the wedding was postponed twice due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
