George and Mary’s only daughter has proven time and time again that not only is she loyal but also highly dependable. Granted that she made mistakes in the past, the Coopers heavily relied on her during the Young Sheldon season 5 chaos as everyone dealt with their respective problems in light of Georgie’s unexpected pregnancy news. Young Sheldon season 6 has only featured Missy sporadically, but she still manages to be a scene-stealer, highlighting just how good her character is.
That’s exactly what happens in the new Young Sheldon season 6 winter premiere trailer (via TV Promos). After taking a winter break, The Big Bang Theory prequel is gearing up for the rest of its run. Young Sheldon will return with a new episode on January 5 with an outing titled “College Dropouts and the Medford Miracle.” Its sneak peek shows all three Cooper siblings discussing Sheldon wanting to drop out of college with Mary, with Missy making a snappy comment about how this effectively makes her the best among them. Young Sheldon Season 6 Continues To Waste Missy’s Potential
Missy was barely on The Big Bang Theory but she immediately made a mark — something that Young Sheldon is benefiting from considering how popular she is in the prequel. Sadly, the family comedy fails to fully capitalize on this by continuously relegating her to a supporting role. While every member of the Cooper family has their respective storylines, Missy doesn’t. Instead, she is incorporated into those narratives as a secondary player. That’s exactly what happened towards the end of Young Sheldon season 5 and season 6 is repeating this mistake so far into its run.
What makes this worse is the fact it isn’t difficult to give Missy her own arc. In fact, Young Sheldon‘s best story is happening off-screen, and it revolves around her adventures at Medford High School. Ever since Sheldon started college at East Texas Tech, there’s barely any time to focus on his sister’s high school years.
What To Expect From The Rest Of Young Sheldon Season 6
As Sheldon’s database grant becomes more stressful for him, expect that Young Sheldon season 6 will continue to explore his options for the future as the prequel moves closer to The Big Bang Theory‘s timeline. That also means that the family comedy is inching closer toward George’s inevitable cheating scandal and death. While it may not happen this season, CBS definitely needs to lay the groundwork for both tragedies as they will alter the overall dynamic of Young Sheldon.
