Yogendran

Yugendran, also known as Yugendran Vasudevan, is an Indian-Singaporean actor, singer, presenter and music director. He has provided his voice for many Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam songs. In 2023, he participated as a contestant in the Tamil version of the reality show “Bigg Boss” Season 7, which aired on Star Vijay and streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.

Yugendran Vasudevan was born on Monday, December 20, 1976, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India (46 years; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. From 2015 to 2016, he obtained a Diploma in Film and Television Production from the Singapore Media Institute. He began his musical journey as a Mridangamist and made his solo debut at the age of 10.

Parents and siblings

His father, Malaysia Vasudevan, a famous Malaysian-born Tamil playback singer and actor, passed away on February 20, 2011. His mother’s name is Usha. He has two sisters named Pavithra and Prashanthini who are Tamil playback singers.

In 1999, Yugendran performed at the launch of a Tamil radio station in Sri Lanka called “Swarna Oli”, where he met Hayma Malini. On November 29, 1999, he married Singaporean RJ host Hayma Malini. The couple has three sons, Visashan Naarayan Yugendran, Kishan Naarayan Yugendran and Darshan Naarayan Yugendran.

When he was a teenager, Yugendran began performing in stage shows with his father, both in India and overseas locations. He continued singing, even dueting with his father on female vocal parts, until Yugendran was 14 years old. After changing his voice, he performed solo in countries including Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and the United States before becoming famous. Act as a playback singer for yourself.

He made his singing debut in 1987 with the song “Senthoora Poove” from the Tamil film “Uzhavan Magan”.

In 2002, he dubbed for the song “Aadi Aadi Vamma” in the Telugu film “Indra”. He has sung several Tamil songs, including “Kalayanamthan Katti” in the Tamil film “Saamy” (2003), “Sudumvarai Neruppu” in the Tamil film “Jananam” (2004) and “Adida!” Tamil films “Nayaandiya” in “Goa” (2010).

Yugendran was originally scheduled to make his debut in the 1998 Tamil film Mouname directed by Raja Kantheeban. The project was later shelved before he could make his debut. He has appeared in several Tamil films including “Amirtham” (2006), “Mudhal Kanave” (2007), “Newtonin Moondram Vidhi” (2009) and “Vizha” (2013). In 2012, he played the lead role in the Singaporean Tamil film Kathalaanain.

Apart from acting in films, he has also appeared in many Tamil television shows, including Sun TV’s “Kolangal” (2003), “Megala” (2007) and “Idhayam” (2009). He has also appeared in many Singaporean and Malaysian drama television shows.

Yugendran started his career as a television host by hosting a music program on Jaya TV. He later expanded his hosting career by hosting music programs on Sun TV and VJ TV. Apart from hosting music shows, he also hosts reality shows on Jaya TV such as Treasure Hunt and a couples competition show on the same channel.

Yugendran has founded two companies named ‘Rambutan Productions’ in India and ‘Rambutan Media Works’ in Singapore. Through these companies, he has produced numerous television programs for countries as diverse as India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. He manages these businesses in partnership with his wife, Hayma Malini. Some of the Singapore TV shows he has produced under Rambutan Media Works include Endrendrum Punnagai, Sollathaan Ninaikirain (talk show) and Vidumurai Vasantham (holiday variety show).
