Yuzvendra Chahal was born on July 23, 1990 in Jind, Haryana, India. At the age of 7, he started playing chess. However, he had difficulty finding sponsors, so he gave up playing and focused on cricket. Initially, he started playing cricket as a medium-pace bowler but later he turned into a leg-spinner.

Yuzvendra made his debut against Madhya Pradesh in Indore in November 2009. He has been representing Haryana in Ranji competitions since 2009. He started his IPL career in 2013, playing for Mumbai Indians. In 2016, he was selected in the 14-man squad of the Indian cricket team for the tour of Zimbabwe. He made his international debut on June 11, 2016 against Zimbabwe. He also made his T20 debut against the same team.
On February 1, 2017, against England, he became the first Indian bowler to take 5 wickets in a T20 match. Chahal made his Championship debut with Kent County in September 2023; he took three wickets in the First Division match against Nottinghamshire. In April 2024, he became the first player to take 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
