After attacking his ex-girlfriend Kristin Evans in 2021, former NFL star Zac Stacy was given a six-month prison term and a year’s probation.
Evans and a friend posted video of the assault, which was caught on home security cameras, online in November 2021. It showed her being thrown through a TV and onto the floor in front of their kid, who was five months old at the time.
According to the regional NBC station WESH, the former St. Louis Rams player reportedly left Florida after an arrest warrant was issued. He was detained at the Orlando International Airport upon his arrival a week later and charged with aggravated violence and criminal mischief.
Stacy, 31, was charged with violence but those charges were dismissed after he entered a guilty plea to two counts of criminal mischief earlier this month in Orange County, Florida, according to WESH.
He was sentenced to six months in prison and one year of probation on Monday when he appeared in court in Orange County.
Despite this, Evans, who has a kid named ZJ with Stacy, responded to the sentence on Instagram early on Tuesday and called for mental health care rather than incarceration.
She stated in the title of the video that “people who are willing to put in the work to be better, deserve an opportunity to show that they can be better.”
Stacy “showed no signs of remorse” at first after the incident in 2021, according to Evans, and “he ran to another state, so I released the videos so he would get arrested.”
But she said that the former NFL running back has significantly improved his life since then. He made the decision to alter, Evans said. He was able to significantly alter his behaviour and communication through cognitive behavioural therapy. He has steadily demonstrated improvement over the past six months, and our son enjoys hanging out with him.
Evans continued by stating that many supporters of heavy punishments also fail to see the challenge faced by survivors of domestic violence in balancing their safety “with what’s right for our children.”
For the rest of my life, I have to communicate with this man, exchange children with him, and co-parent children with him, said Evans. She added that she “didn’t advocate for jail” due to “the lack of resources, the lack of rehabilitation, the lack of education for mental health, and the psychological effect it may have on our son, having already developed a relationship with his father.”
