Tammy Slaton finally gets behind the wheel.
In an exclusive PEOPLE clip from Tuesday’s episode 1000 lbs. SistersThe 38-year-old is out with her brother Chris as he helps her practice driving a golf cart. Chris tells Tammy to start moving and warns her, “don’t kill me,” holding on to the bar as she makes several sharp turns.
“When I start driving, I feel fantastic,” she says. “Like, no worries, b— ! Just do it. Do it!”
Tammy then almost crashes into a tree, starting to panic after having to hit the brakes at the last minute. Chris calmly reminds her to hit the brake pedal in time and encourages her to get back to driving.
“It’s still scary, but I just have to remember to breathe and not panic… especially when the tree is coming,” he jokes.

After driving the gold cart for a while, Chris asks Tammy if she would ever try it again. “I guess I just have to get used to it. Maybe in a couple more… we’ll be going for years,” he replies with a laugh as Chris shakes his head in frustration.
“I am proud of myself. I’m glad I decided to drive today. But as far as cars go, that’s a bit of a stretch,” adds Tammy in the confessional.
Chris tells her that they don’t have any more years to wait and that Tammy needs to get her driver’s license soon so she can be more independent and do whatever she wants.
“I don’t understand why Tammy doesn’t necessarily want to learn to drive because she knows how frustrating it is to wait and call people for rides,” he says. “Maybe it’s the fear that she won’t need someone because she’s gone from being bedridden to being waited on hand and foot to someone who can do whatever she wants.”
“And being able to drive is the last piece of the puzzle,” Chris adds before telling his sister, “There’s nothing holding you back but fear.”
