15 Things that might disappear might be doomsayers talk but these things will affect our interaction with other human beings and as a species so know about those things that might disappear due to relevance of it.
15 Things That Will Disappear in the Next 25 Years
The World is forever changing whether an intelligent being is there to assess the changes and record them for its benefit. Change is happening all around you there is a famous saying that goes “Change is Only Constant” by the Greek Philosopher Heraclitus.
As a human Being, we have taken a long and ardent journey of change. We also made changes to this planet that are indeed remarkable for any species on the planet. We have built subsystems based on the ecological niches that we occupy, these subsystems include economics, politics, and society.
We have also made changes to the ecological and geographic scale that the international scientific community of the Anthropocene working group thinks that our species has made a geological epoch and adding the Anthropocene as geological time scale shows the sheer scale of change that we have done.
But, for common people, these things are least of concern as they are stuck in the subsystems that we humans have built to govern ourselves like economic, political, and social systems. So we will see the 15 things that are primarily going to affect our livelihood in a manner we never imagined so, let’s embrace the change.
Credit and Debit cards
Credit and Debit cards are easy and convenient ways to transactions after cheques in the banking system. They help people or businesses to do the scale of transactions that are inconceivable for speed and reliability, all thanks to magnetic strips and electronic chips.
This helped people to do easy transactions within the banking system. Now digital payments are on the rise using double-factor authentication that helps them to be more secure and reliable and also easy to carry, if you ask the people who are using digital payments using the smartphone.
The rise of digital payments will slowly lead to the decline of physical cards like debit cards and credit cards. But how fast it will happen will depend on the security and reliability factor of these digital payments.
Paper Documents
The Paper documents played a crucial role in bringing transparency and governance to the exchange of information be it News journals or govt documents they are all-pervasive.
Now everything is online-based data forms be it applications to opening bank accounts to filling an IT Tax return and all the things in between. If you ever worked in a 9-6 pm Office Job the odds of you have worked in handling paper documents are most probably Nil.
Even some of the govt archives that have paper-based documents are going fully digital converting their records. There are complete studies on handling the born-digital documents. So paper documents in the world of public and private business areas will soon be non-existent.
Physical banks
Just as we saw the Decline in the Physical debit and credit cards. physical banks are also running empty as most of them have gone digital and customers are asking queries digitally. There is no reason for the banks to have branches to answer queries from few senior citizens.
so they have outsourced it to three or four large Business processes companies like those who handle the behind-digital transactions and customer queries (they are also called front office and back office) for long-term contract basis or short-term, whichever is budget friendly for the bank.
This helped the banks rationalize the resources and focus on research areas on the blockchain uses between B2G(Business to govt transactions) and improve the profit and have more portfolios to have slim structure and ownership of things. Lead with the modus dictum of less of the things you own less your problems be.
Physical Ownership
Physical Ownership is everybody once envied. It is still envied upon when the person who you don’t like buys a new car or costly handbag or dress even a smartphone. But in the world of the business ownership and market analysis the less you own the less your problems are in managing the assets.
Lets say your are website owner the domain you bought is via third party, to get it indexed in the popular search engine you may need part time or full time SEO for trend keywords and Content writers with subjects knowledge and ad marketing agency to place ads on your website as that’s how you earn money.
In the traditional sense all of them can be owned by the single party registration and now to rationalise it all of them can be compartmentalized like a silo and split up for front office or back office. After the covid it is more of business model now across the big companies.
But for common people owning a house or car for personal travel will still be envied upon. The question arises if businesses are not owing these things who are owning them? For that there will only be political answer that are better to disscuss for future generations.
Retirement
The Retirement started when the stable factory jobs and better healthcare amenities reached the common people in the late 19th century and early 20th century as gradual process. But it is now reaching the tipping point as the workforce is aging and young ones are not career enthusiasts as it may seem as the data points out.
The young working force lacks skills, knowledge and tacit social cohesion that they dont have in building the reasonable working conditions for themselves nor their colleagues. The companies are also in tight spot to have a person in charge in managing the day-to-day running of office issues.
In Western world the workforce is ageing rapidly and people who are running things might already be above retirement age. And as the developing world achieves strides in the demographic transitions they are also ageing faster soon.
International labor organization will be intervening and giving the proper answer to the question that had just risen or they will simply stand to let the sovereign states take a fair call for respective societies.
Keys
The Physical keys to homes and hotel rooms are becoming a thing of the past as most of the doors are electronic locks. Even personal mobility vehicles such as electric two wheels come with digital locks that are connected to the user’s smartphone.
In the coming times, people will have no physical lock to use their daily chore items like car, bike, and home. All of them will be digitally controlled electronic locks via an app. Whether it is convenient or not will be established by the popularity and security of trust that people would have Electronic locks.
Passwords
If you are a Regular social media user outside your personal device or place then this issue migh be a big concern for you. most of us are used to having the world of the social media sites via apps on our smartphone they are logged in 24*7 and no need to verify it whenever we are opening it as we have marked it as pesonal device.
But passwords act as a sort of physical barrier to access our personal information and details on our social media page. But it is also problem as most people use forget password option to login instead of actual password.
The social media companies also know about these trends and are actively working for them to remove and replace them with much more tangible and not so outrageous thing. What thing would replace the passwords may be biometric or some other authentication factor like OTP.
We are not sure which is more user convenient at the moment as it is still in study. so we will have to wait for the actual thing that is going to replace them.
Weed/Cannabis
The Use and Abuse of drugs by the human beings had a long and bitter history starting with opium wars in the china and use of other drugs in wars like vitenam are painful historical fact. but the drugs in and of itself is not problem as the most western world began to realize this.
After the war of drugs campaing by the US. the Weed/ Cannabis have a long history with humans as they have the origins in the south asia. Now the US State legislatures are legaliztion them for medical and recrational purpose currently legal in 38 states.
They are growing in popularity as the oldest democracy set for it’s course correction will it also have the ability and influence to change international drug convention on the weed usage and travel aborad with them is not a crimnal action.
Cable TV
The Arrival of streaming services and poor cable connectivity due it’’s non reliable and high price tag compared to streaming service. The Tv Cables are now one of the non-needed things in the most of the Houses.
As people are paying only what they want and not the all channels that they not going to watch. Streaming services rightly came to them for their rescue by giving the exact type of content that they are watching and like.
So in few years Cable Tv companies will be going out of business or declaring bankruptcy as might be the case in the United States of America so we will have to see for ourselves.
TV Remote
The Television sets are rarely run in most of the homes nowadays. Most people don’t turn on the TV other than any important issue that they need to watch in the hall of House. Now most members have smartphones and have the world of information come into their rooms.
but if you’re one of the people who still enjoy and watch their favorite shows on the screen then there’s an issue coming to your doorstep step which is your TV remotes. They are going to be replaced by onboard voice assistant on the TV as some of them do have it.
So whenever if you have lost a TV remote and struggle to change the TV don’t worry as the voice assistant comes to your rescue.
Traffic Jams
The Traffic jams in the big cities are going to be a thing of the past as the cars become more automatic and are useful for the data of the traffic flow from big parts of the city. Then that data is used to check and give predictive data guidance that cars are not going to be struck in the same part of the city and cause delays to people.
Due to bottle-neck or choke points in the city that people are trying to avoid. But all said and done automatic car adoption is still in a nascent stage and it may take more than 15 years for people to realize it.
Drivers
As the Arrival of self-driving cars makes more strides. The number of drivers that are going to be replaced by them is overwhelming. But driving as a skill is the most requested one and people are still not able to replace driving a car or truck as a skill.
The Drivers themselves are not afraid of it as it will partly relieve the stress that they will incur by switching the self-driving vehicle. And reduce the accidents that can occur due to human inattentiveness at the wheel because of long drives but in the cities, car driving will change completely.
Glaciers
The Glaciers of the northern & Southern hemispheres and other high mountains with glaciers are slowly disappearing due to climate change and the rise of the temperatures that are caused by greenhouse gases and CO2 emissions. For a common person who is stuck in the issues of Social, political, and Economic issues.
A large chunk of ice that gets melted and sunken into the sea due to the temperature rise will increase the sea level and change ocean, currents which will affect the ocean food chains and fish availability, which will lead to already poverty-stricken communities to the vicious poverty cycle.
And so the loss of glaciers does affect them and they need to be aware of it and ask questions to save them before we lose it all.
Single Use Plastic
The Ban on Single Use of Plastic has caused great harm to the people and environment. people and businesses who are accustomed to the use of single-use plastic will find it hard but if there are no alternatives like bio-degradable plastics and their large-scale versatility then the ban and excise of the ban will be futile and nonpractical.
before we see it as a practical thing use of other alternatives and a strong business base needs to be set for bio-degradable plastics. To see this reality in the coming decades, especially in the developing world.
Snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere
As the recent report by the NOAA on global snow report for the month of February 2024 across the world snow cover is decreasing at a rapid rate for the entire northern hemisphere is 43.84 million square kilometers and is currently covered in snow as compared to the previous two decades of 1991 – 2020 average data.
Which ranked as the 9th smallest snow cover. For guy who is shivering and homeless in the streets, this data is completely shit and irrelevant but for a person who has access to the net and data they need to be politically aware of how and why fewer snow covers mean?.
It means the earth will warm more faster and have less snow cover to reflect the sun’s energy which will be absorbed by the earth causing the earth to heat faster. So it is our endeavour to change things and be more politically aware of things.
Instead of accepting ever-changing changes thrown at us by using the subsystem of economic, political and social good always question them with critical thinking and thought before embracing it.
