Jeremy Clarkson reveals Farmer’s Dog pub is a ‘total disaster’ and he’s burning through cash after 104 thefts in ONE DAY

JEREMY Clarkson has revealed his Farmer’s Dog pub is a ‘complete disaster’ – and is running out of cash after 104 thefts in ONE DAY.

The Clarkson’s Farm star opened his pub in Oxfordshire a few months ago and fans have flocked to visit the watering hole.

But despite the queues out the door and the famous faces dropping in, Jeremy discovered that being a pub owner isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

In a new column for The Times, he said: “Behind the scenes, then, everything is a total disaster. But the fact is, when you go there you just wouldn’t know.”

Jeremy detailed a number of unexpected problems he and the team have encountered recently, including a customer who had a severe bout of diarrhea in one of the toilets that required “a whole team of chemically trained hazard engineers” to deal with.

Although Jeremy may be exaggerating a bit on that front, the numbers don’t lie elsewhere.

He said: “Theft, for example, is unbelievable. People seem to have it in their heads that if they come for a pint they are entitled to go home with the glass it was served in.

“Last Sunday 104 went out. And that cost has to be added to the £100 a day we spend on fuel for the generator, the £400 a week it costs to heat the terrace and the £27,000 a month we have to spend on parking and traffic wardens to keep the council away .”

He continued: “It’s heartbreaking to see how much effort it takes to make so little money on the farm. It’s even worse in the pub.

“Customers come. No problem there. But turning their visits into profit is almost impossible.”

Jeremy and his partner Lisa also faced unexpected obstacles in the run-up to Christmas, as Lisa’s goose night didn’t go to plan and they only managed to sell five turkeys.

But despite it all, Jeremy is determined to continue with his latest venture.

He concluded his column with the words: “It’s warm and there’s a fire, and the staff is friendly, young and happy.

“It’s a proper, traditional pub. By that I mean you’ll love it and I’ll lose a fortune and develop skin disease from the stress of running it.”
